Venezuela | Aged | 40% ABV

Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.

This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

Nice complex and aromatic and sweet nose.
Caramel and orange peel aromas. Spicy hints (nutmeg and cinnamon)
Sweet soft attack but very long peppery, smoky earthy finish (tourbe)

Power and elegance compared to its entry level black label

There are a handful of rums I like more than this one, but this one is very good. For the price, I think it's one of the better rums around. It's fairly smooth, but has just a little bit of a bite. Very good flavor, one that I would be glad to drink just about anytime.

The rum is smooth and the aromas are decent... but the aftertaste was kinda unpleasant for me.

Trรจs bon rhum. Bel รฉquilibre, pas trop fort en bois. Je conseille sans rรฉserve.

Purchased a sample from Master of Malt for about ยฃ6.

You can really taste the oak on this one very potent not needed in my opinion but a decent 7 nonetheless.

Itโ€™s been a while but from what I remember it was dry, Very distinct from other rums, maybe comparable to a flor de Cana in flavor. A little sweeter though, and a some barrack aging, though nothing crazy.

Bottle - A handsome bottle a little broader in the shoulder and topped with a scarlet red wax seal. Nice old world label.

Nose - tropical fruits, citrus, banana bread, caramel. Really begs to be tasted, my mouth watering as I smell.

In the mouth - orange, caramel, vanilla. Hints of oak and tobacco. Quite light and mineral like. It's quite complex without any one distinctive flavour. I think part of the problem people have trouble nailing the flavour profile on this is that the flavours don't last that long.

Finish - Dry, fades away quickly not leaving much to linger on. This is the most dissapointing part of this rum and what stops it from a higher score.

I do really like this rum, I tend to favour sweeter style rums and adore a nice thick mouth feel and lingering after-taste. Santa Teresa lacks both these but it does so many other things right.

This deserves a place in any rum lovers collection.
B+

Yeah, the 1796 is good. Really good. Best ever per my Venezuelan friends? Debatable, but I'd drink it anytime. It's one of the few I'll drink neat. Smooth. Really smooth (as long as your not shooting it!) and just a wonderful after taste that lingers for a long time. The after taste in this one is where it's at. Subtly sweet, nice cinnamon flavors light touch of caramel and vanilla, and a great spice that sits on the tongue. Strong, but not overbearing. It really is a delicious rum.
