The rum was bottled at 48%. We have a blend of pot and coffey still that has been matured in ex-bourbon barrels for 12 years. Some of it was stored in ex-Madeira barrels.

Smell: A typical Foursquare finds its way into my nose. Caramel sweetness, dried fruits such as plums / raisins / cranberries and hazelnuts dominate the nose. The rum is a bit alcoholic deeper in the glass. The aromas are therefore not clearly distinguishable for me.
There are still barrel aromas such as oak, some vanilla and some rubber. I think it has similarities with Detente. This is a Foursquare that smells okay, but for me it doesn't belong to the better ones of the ECS series.

Taste: The start is a bit bitter with tannins, the dark wood and the sweetness of burnt sugar. The rum is noticeably older than Detente and more intense on the palate than on the nose. I still taste some gum and the dried fruit before the rum becomes dry on the palate and spicy.
The finish is sharp and medium-long, I can taste barrel aromas, burnt sugar and dried fruits again. Then some hazelnut and the rum says goodbye with a little sweetness.
A dry mouthfeel remains.

Aftertaste: dried fruit, burnt sugar and bourbon barrel flavors

A mediocre bottling that was probably positioned in the middle in terms of price. The rum is not bad, but it didn't impress real Foursquare fans because it provides a standard range of flavors. The influence of Madeira barrel is limited, compared with Empery that has a much stronger sherry influence.

Tremendously complex. Super smooth. A beautiful rum! Tons of caramel and vanilla to open. Nice punch but beautifully balanced. Very complex with dark fruit and mint. Fantastic white pepper finish which is very long. Incredible finish. I have heard a lot of hype over Foursquare. This rum finally lives up to it.

Karamel, ovocie, citrusy a víno. Chuť je mierne nasládla a krásne guľatá. Zase je to ovocie, karamel a víno. Po prehltnutí ostáva veľmi príjemná chuť a trochu zahreje!

This is a nice, pleasant sipper. There are no off flavors or anything that'll make you cringe. If you're familiar with Foursquare, it's pretty par for the course. If you're unfamiliar, either with Foursquare or with sipping rums in general, this would be a good place to start. It's perhaps a bit fruitier than their other offerings, but nothing too far out there.

Had a sample of this, and was different from anything I've had before.
What I got was spicy, spicy, spicy. Yet, somehow it strayed in balance. Not too dry, or oaky. Just right.

I really hope they release either some more of this, or something like it, and that Brexit doesn't stop it coming here, cos this retailed for £52, and I reckon, it's worth it!

I liked this one, but not the best ive tasted, hence the 8/10. The 48% is a nice touch!

Nose: Mostly coconut with a background of burnt sugar and a hint of banana and spices. The common aged rum notes of dried fruits and oak are present, but not as much as in a latin style rum. Coming back to the nose after tasting, some liquorice has developed. I know sugar doesn't smell, but the smell certainly has sweet and warm connotations to me.

Taste: Quite a powerful rush at first with noticeable alcohol, but develops into a well-rounded oak and dried fruits presence. I've never had a madeira wine so I can't tell its exact influence, but it definitely tastes a bit cognac-y.

This Sága absolutely fits for purpose from my point of view, Comparable with Hampden 8y but more caramel and light Wood on the tongue😎

The Foursquare ECS Sagacity 12y is a blend of pot and column style rums, which were allowed to store half in bourbon and half in Madeira barrels for 12 years. The rum produced in Barbados was then bottled with 48% alcohol. The slightly reddish shimmering rum comes in the Foursquare typical bottle which is high-quality and looks noble.

In the nose, the rum needs some time. I let him breathe 30min. I find Bourbon notes with vanilla. Wood with roasted aromas. A light fruit resonates. All a little lighter than in the ECS 2007. On the palate, the rum again shows bourbon notes with some smoke. The port wine notes are faintly perceptible. The sweetness is a little more present. But also orange and seasoning. At the finish, the rum brings a peppery sharpness that pushes further aromas into the background. The rum stays medium long in the mouth.

I have to say that the Sagacity cannot keep up with the 2007. The fact that it has no barrel strength is noticeable in taste. Also, it is very sharp and must be drunk carefully. He is sharper than the ECS 2007. A good rum without dyes, which tastes good to me. But sadly I'm not thrilled either.

Smooth, sweet, counterbalances the dry oakieness of Foursquare. Delicious and very good. 8.5.
