Plantation Isle Fiji

There is some funkiness on the nose, which I experienced as something like green onion and freshly baked rye bread. Under it are honey and molasses notes. The nose is quite nice for these variety of aromas. The palate is somewhat sweet, creating a rich, round mouthfeel, with nice molasses and caramel notes. These carry onto the finish which presents a slightly peppery bite at the very end. It’s a very pleasant rum to sip.

Tasty rum, slightly sweet but nothing fancy. Very nice bottle label.

I’m a little puzzled by this one. I actually like it, find the aroma appealing & it drinks pretty smoothly. That said, I feel like it’s missing something...though I’m not exactly sure what that “something” is. For the price though, I’d buy it again.

It's not burning in the mouth or down the throat..it has similar taste points to mount gay do.. I had to try it.. so I'm good with restocking. On to the next

I love Plantation and almost all of their expressions. This one, not a fan. Almost a chemical aftertaste. My wife does approve with coconut water, she gave a 7 rating vs my 6. 4/12/24

I went to one of my favorite liquor stores this afternoon to pick up something else that I knew that they had in stock. There was a very affordable bottle of rum from Fiji on the shelf. In my scuba diving days, I had long been fascinated with diving in Fiji. That never came to happen and is too long of a story for here.

So I finally got my hands on a bottle of rum from Fiji with final blessings from Plantation. So, the first 2 years or more are aged in ex-bourbon casks in that hot tropical climate. Then they are shipped off to France for final aging in French Oak casks (cognac was not even mentioned). That is a lot of damn miles on it, so how can it go for the ridiculously low price of only $25 US? Something was already amiss with me. When I got it to the counter, the check out girl raved about it and obviously had very little experience with rum. I almost put it back at that point. But I told myself WTF and brought it home.

It has a very pretty paper label showing the flora and fauna of Fiji, so maybe that is what attracts the young ones. I opened it up and poured the first ounce into my snifter. The aroma was really strange and took me quite a while to tell what it was! A-HA!!! Forty years ago, I used to pedal my bike 20 miles round trip per day to college. Flat tires were a weekly problem. The aroma of this rum smelled like that damn tire patch kit! Did it bring back wonderful memories? Hell No! I persisted and it no longer tasted like a tire patch kit. All I could think of was that this is what it must be like to attend one of those bizarre kava ceremonies (not for the faint of heart from what I have seen on YouTube). After testing it neat, I asked myself what in hell was I going to do with the rest of the bottle. I am a master of trying everything to keep from pouring a whole bottle of rum down the toilet, but this one really had me stumped. I had no idea what to mix with it.

So, if all else fails, add ice cubes! Voila! Then the Hogo funk magically appeared from the other side of the world from Jamaica! They obviously borrowed the distilling methods from Jamaica. Just remember this old trick if you get stuck with a rum like this. I saved another 5 rating from going down the toilet.

This drink has some beautiful smells and flavours. I was impressed with how it took me to tropical islands in thought as i sipped it then gorged myself. Far strong than thought as its a subtle drop

Just want to put it in my cabinet so there is nothing more to add. A good rum.

It has a very promising smell but the taste cannot live oup to it. Easy to drink but quickly gone.
