Honey yellow in the glass.
On the nose, a very distinct profile like a Guyana/Jamaica blend. Vanilla buns with a dash of funk, oak barrels filled and overflowing with caramel, tropical fruit with wilted flowers.
A lovely "Plantation" sweetness on the palate. Fresh, caramelized tropical flowers and candied fruit in custard provide rich soil for the other flavors to be discovered.
The finish leaves some caramel and a memory of a sunset on Caqalai Island.
A special rum that makes you want to try something new. For explorers and connoisseurs. I should go to Fiji again.

Reading the other ratings, I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Very light and drinkable. Not overly sweet. Just enough of a burn to make it worthwhile without taking away from the taste. I get some vanilla, maybe a tad of caramel and something like plum or ripe fruit. Someone said it was a mix of Bajan and Jamaican. That's accurate, but those with a lighter flavour. Best part is that it is reasonably priced, even here in over-taxed Canada. I'd say 7.5 but gave it an 8 because I think it deserves a higher overall rating.
Plantation is not a Rum Distiller as you might think, they’re more a consolidator, they take Rums from all over the world and blend them into various spirits that come and go. I’ve had a number of Plantation Rums already and I’m looking forward to sampling this one... But with a bit of worry. The last Rum I had from Fiji was Bounty, drab, sour and underwhelming. But here we go...
The nose of this Rum is bold, even as I'm a couple feet away from my snifter. It’s doing quite well competing with the odour of onions coming in the window from the neighbour who’s cooking at 8:33pm. Up close, it’s a bit sour. I’ve used the term “Plumbers Putty” before and this Rum has it in spades. If I were to to put it into context I would say it’s bold with apricot, orange and raw spirits. The first hit is delicate, not overwhelming or spicy. That surprises me because it is 40% ABV. Early flavours are of molasses and bitter orange. Still it’s sweet.
In the mouth Plantation Isle of Fiji has only the slightest hint of pepper or heat. Teetotallers will be happy with that. The flavours are broad of apricot, orange, walnut and molasses. Pleasant. Lori said she found banana, but I did not. In the throat it’s easy, no big burn like cheap Rums and Spirits. It almost disappears. The finish in my mind is bold on molasses and I like it. Best served neat at room temperature.
Light gold in color. Typical Plantation gives a huge variety of notes to nose on. Vanilla and pear dominate, a lot of Christmas apple, honey and nuts on top, with a smoky tail.
On the palate it is quite sweet, some spices are there too. A very nice alcohol taste. A banana, pear and apple with cinnamon and vanilla are in front. Bourbon fudge follows with banana. Truly an awesome rum to taste, especially if you are into sweeter side, just like me
After smelling it and the first drip I resarch how many %% it has. It's better when you leave it for a moment giving it some air or mix it with a bit of water. Quite pleasant but agressive in it's teaste. I think burbon barells made it more spicy for the thounge. Still quite good to change usuall flavours.
Ok, so this might seem strange, but since I discovered this rum, although it's not so highly rated, it's a bit gimmicky... it's become my favorite. It appeals to my Polynesian tiki sensibility, and yes, the water might have something to do with it. I just like it, a lot, and it's not too expensive.
Duft af fermenteret frugt. Æble og Røg. Smag af vanilje. Lidt krydret og et hint af røg. Havde købt den på tilbud, da jeg havde lidt større forventninger. Er ikke dårlig, men heller ikke det helt store. (9. december 2021 i 1423)
