Enjoyed a bottle of Dictador Best of 1979 with my friend during a vacation. Very nice and high end bottle and hand written label design. Deep mahogany color. Typical coffee notes are clearly identifiable to the nose and palate from all older Dictador brands. Surprisingly similar to the Best of 1977.
This is a rum for those, who like dry rums. It is nice but will not become one of my favorites.
I love this. The age makes a beautiful nose of old leather libraries. There is a lovely tingle that only comes from long aging. The taste has a range of toffees and burnt caramels and an influence of saltines. It would be a perfect 10 but for a bitter note in the after taste. But i love this rum.
So they added artificial coffee flavor like they do to every other Dictador. At least it is not overpowering and if you just don't think about it, it's drinkable. Which is not very nice thing to say about premium vintage rum, is it?
Smooth rich flavours of leather, caramel, molasses, liquorice with a slight nutty finish and a subtle natural sweetness that is perfectly balanced. This is a real treat and worth every penny/cent.
