it s ok rum, no additives, cheaper than their XO but at the same level, also far away from Doorly's 12 and the excellent 14 YO, nose: alcohol burn, dry, in the mouth also dry with some fruits and vanilla, people can tell it s a bourbon drinker rum, yes it is but a solid one !
Doorly's isn't reinventing the wheel or anything, but it's a pretty good rum for the price. Light amber tone, with a mild sweetness, fairly smooth with a bit of heat at the end. Great for cocktails.
Cant go wrong with any doorlys but this is my least favorite of all the doorly products. Still very good and would recommend for anyone looking for an 8 yr aged rum, or a barbados rum.
This gets a big 8 and so close to a 9 simply because the complete package is truly worthy. The cost here is very reasonable, the taste and quality are top notch and the versatility of how you drink this is just brilliant.
As a sipper its typical Foursquare flavour but smoother than the XO, less complex than the 12 and 14 but truly holds its own for ease of consumption when more quantity over quality is needed (parties, bbq's, sharing! etc) It goes well mixed and doesn't get too lost in the mix...
Criminally underrated and highly recommended
What a value. $20 and a premium flavor. Foursquare distilled. 8 years in the same climate. Still a hint a of sherry.
Not quite smooth enough to use as a sipping rum. Decent in a mixed drink if a little subdued. I bought this to compare to the Doorly's 12 year. For the price difference, I would definitely recommend the 12 year. This rum is better than many other rums I have had in the same price point, but not enough to bother keeping on the shelf. This rum suffers from not being smooth enough to want to sip, and being too muted to really shine in a mixed drink.
I won't be restocking this one.
Tasted this against Mount Gay Eclipse, and Doorley's XO. This is much smoother than the XO and has more hints of tropical fruit. I would consider this for sipping, with ice, or with limited cocktail ingredients.
Nice oak notes and spicy sweet/sour bourbon mash. You also get sweet fruity notes.
"A little grape and some coconut. A slight caramel sweetness as well, a just a touch of toffee."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The nose is something I really like on Doorly's lineup, and this 8y is no exception, playful notes of citrus fruits, mixed with wood and a bit of vanilla, what the nose tells you you get also on the palate, with added sweet and sour notes of grapefruit, smoked oak and a touch of toffee, the aftertaste has mix of all mentioned tastes with pronounced grape. As well as 5y and XO, this rum is again 100% worth the money. No sugar added - which is natural for all true Bajan rums. If you like Bajan style you cant go wrong here.
