Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I like the Central American rums. Bought one of this when I was in Costa Rica and did not regret it.
Guter Rum, ΓΌberall VerfΓΌgbar, daher immer leicht nach zukaufen. Grundausstattung...
Dlouho jsem pΕemΓ½Ε‘lel jestli investuju. UrΔitΔ toho nelituju, tato zacapa je takovΓ‘ svΓ‘. NicmΓ©nΔ lahev jsme dopijeli namixovanou s kolou. Na me trochu ostΕejΕ‘Γ, palciva. Mam rad jemnΓ© rumy sladΕ‘Γ. Urcite si ji dam ale nΔkdy znovu.
Zacapa je prostΔ klasika. Kdo nezkusil, nevΓ. Golden standart
Spicy and strong, with many different flavors. I would definitely buy it again.
good slipping rum with a good price. I would put it in the middle
If this were 30$ a bottle Iβd give it a 7β¦. But at 80$ CAD a bottle I was expecting a much more balanced rum. This is very harsh especially compared to some cheaper counterparts (Havana Club 7 years for example)
Worth a taste but disappointing in my opinionβ¦.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Despite my best efforts, it's good and a nice one to recommend for people who haven't ventured into rum.
Like others, I'm less than enthused both with their failure to label the extra sugar added and with the solera style in general. I'm a Richard Seale disciple so solera isn't my favorite labeling mechanism.
That being said, it's hard to deny that this is well done, even if it is a little on the sweeter side.
