Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

This rum is a great sipping rum and enjoyed best neat. This is a cigar rum where there is little bite. This though in my tasting is one dimensional. It has one flavor going on for the most part. I will soon sample the 25 year and I hope it breaks into uni-dimensional at that point. No hang over choice high quality.

I grabbed a bottle of this on sale when I was away and really liked it. I like sweet rums and it finished sweet. It was decent by itself or on the rocks with lime. It blended well with ginger beer. But after I read how its a mixture of ages and not truly as old and sweetening it to get the finish you want, left me feeling dirty. I liked this rum, it was good; but feel like it 's a little deceptive marketing.

Lovely Dark Rum. Recommend using rocks so that it doesn't get watered-down.

Comprado por las buenas puntuaciones, fue mi primer ron pero sinceramente nada del otro mundo. He probado rones de 8€ muchísimos más buenos que este.
Defrauda un poco por la relación calidad/precio.

Pretty decent as a supper but a little too sweet. Obviously heavily dosed and the chocolate notes are a little too heavy handed. Still pretty good for sipping if you’re in the mood for a dessert rum

Po tom ako som čítal o tomto rume, som čakal teda viac. Síce príjemná chuť a vôňa trochu po alkohole no záver sa dá. Dlhší príjemný, trochu stále korenistý, no od zacapy som čakal omnoho viac. Zo sklamaním sa budem lúčiť s týmto korenistým rumom ktorý vo mne zanecháva rozpačitosť.

Picked this up since I've heard good things (also heard some bad about the sweetness) but I really liked it. Sure they add sugar and coloring but at 50ish bucks you really can't go wrong with this choice.
Color: Mahogany
Nose: Caramel, toffee, and tons of vanilla.
Taste: Really sweet vanilla and honey with notes of dried fruit

So it has taken me a long time to write this review because of the deep discussion that it provokes.

I had this rum at a bachelor party dinner for a very close friend at a very high end steakhouse about a year ago. I was extremely surprised at how delicious and smooth it was. On that experience I would have rated it a 8. However....

Then I came here and read the reviews about how doctored up this rum is with not only added sugar but other flavor additives as well and it made me think harder about the entire world of rum and what is acceptable to me. After a good deal of thought, I have come to the personal conclusion that I don’t mind added sugar alone, within reasonable amounts, to create or enhance subtle aspects to rum. But I draw the line at any chemical flavor additive except sugar...because beyond traditional natural ingredients, rum loses what make it a historical and traditional spirit and puts it in the "flavored rum" category. Because this rum uses artificial ingredients, it gets docked points in a "rum" rating and I consider it a "flavored rum" and thus it's comparisons are to other flavored rums such as Malibu, Parrot Bay, etc.

Now, does it taste great? It sure does. I might go ahead and say that it's one of the better flavored rums out there. But since it holds itself out as a rum with no mention of artificial flavoring, the dishonesty and use of chemical flavor additives beyond sugar just rubs me the wrong way, so I have to dock points. Thus I deduct 2 points from what I would have rated this rum based on the experience alone. 8-2=6.

If you love this rum, and don't care what's in it, then great! But I personally cannot in good conscience rate this rum a 8 with the knowledge that it is altered using artificial flavoring.

Kvalitní dobrý rum vhodný pro rumové začátečníky. Sladší, voňavý. Přišel mi podobný jako Diplomatico.
