United States | Aged | 40% ABV

Bacardi 8-Year is a blended rum, filtered using the Bacardi-pioneered charcoal filtering system and aged for eight years.

This rum was not released to the public until 1995, when the first limited edition Bacardi 8 was sold with a sherry oak finish in a Baccarat crystal decanter. Despite a price tag of $400 per bottle, the rum was hugely popular and led to the larger release of the blend without the collectors' features and price.

Surprisingly balanced and almost smooth. Smokey, but not too heavy. Remember drinking it after Zacapa XO, as a treat, and still got possitively impressed!

Needed a better rum in small town liquor store and found this aged Bacardi. I am not too high on Bacardi other than Limon but this was quite good considering the over produced approach. I like with Soda or in a dark & stormy. Decent price as well.

I bought some of this on a fishing trip with a couple friends turned out to be one of my top 10 rums not to strong or light just right for me

I have tasted better stuff that home distillers have made and aged themselves. For 8 years it should be much smother than it is. Not a good value buy.

This rum is easy to find, so that's a big plus, and it's not too bad. Smooth it is not. Perhaps as a mixer.

I always like to taste every rum straight because the flavors are there.. So the 8 year Bacardi stands perfect to my mouth.. Not to heavy a little bit complex of caramel ,cinnamon and pepper at the end. Has no duration to the aftertaste so I think that it would be perfect for Mohito and other rum cocktails

Though IMO there are quite a few other rums in the $20-25 price range that are better, such as Pusser's, El Dorado 12 yr, Abuelo 7 yr or Matusalem 15 yr. Widely available and a good go-to.

One thing I feel I should mention - Mojitos should be made with a light rum. This might be good with mint and lime, but it doesn't make a true mojito.

Not my idea of a sipper. Works well with grapefruit juice for me.

7,2:The nose is open and generous from the outset. The sugar/vanilla duo is classic, but there is a fruity background of white grapes or sweet white wine. The grape sugar is rich, offering nuances of tobacco and sweet caramel. There's also a golden resin with vegetal accents.
On aeration, the first impression is always of sweetness, this time moving towards red fruit candy. Some ripe exotic fruit (papaya, mango), leather and a little cherry pit give a solid structure to the whole. We're again reminded of sweet white wine with what could be a ripe melon drizzled with a drop of muscat. A little acidic, metallic smoke coats the glass over time.
7:On the palate, the rum is sweet and fruity, with banana in particular. Dried fruits appear in a well-balanced whole. The hint of smoke seen on the nose makes a noticeable appearance, before giving way to orange zest powdered with cinnamon.
6,8:The finish is pleasant and sweet, with some caramelized woodiness.

This is actually a decent rum, especially for the relatively low price.

On the nose - mild; a hint of spice and alcohol, but doesn't really burn, a light fruitiness.

On the palate - spiciness intensifies as does the fruitiness. Some sweetness, not too much (good level really). A note of oak, finishes with some smokiness, a tad bitter, and with a faint vegetal note that is a bit on the agricole side.

Certainly not the best rum, especially for this age, but it is entirely approachable and enjoyable.

Probably the best Bacardi, definitely the best for the price. It was my go to for the longest time.
