Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still
Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.
The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

The taste is and interesting combination of many flavours. There's banana in the beginning and coconut in the end. Vanilla is a bit too strong.

A very smooth, sweet, easy-to-enjoy rum. Maybe a bit too sweet for my preference, but definitively one to always keep in stock. If for no other reason than to have something to offer for those that are skeptical to rum. Everybody I've offered it to absolutely loves it. I have converted many a skeptic with this one.

The nose is quite sweet, with dried fruit, and a spark of coconut. The taste is quite sweet, fresh and balanced in the end. The after burn is good, its stays in, but not for long time. Sweet and nice, one of my favorite.
It tastes pretty much like a coconut liqueur.
"An overly sweet saccharin note which make the rum taste artificial. ."

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Bought this one tax-free on the boat returning from a vacation in Norway. It has just the most beautiful bottle, which immediately sets the right mood. As it is on the list(s) of rums with added sugar, I was afraid it could be just a little overly sweet, but i found the sweetness very well balanced, nice dry-ish.
The nose was not really strong, but it's more like pleasant teaser / preview of what you are about to taste. And it backs up the taste very well... what you smell is what you get! It is fruity and tropical, but there's oak and smokiness too. The burn is good, meaning it is not too much but it still has that bite, which transitions quickly in a lovely lenghty aftertaste.
It is quite different in comparison to one of my favourite: Mount Gay XO, but I think this one wins on details. Considered that ratings can only be given in whole points, if either one deserves a 10, it's this one (although i was tempted to reward Mount Gay with a 10 as well).
