I bought this because I was trapped at Barcelona Airport, which turns out to have a few less obvious rums. This one is dark, smooth, keeps delivering flavour and not very sweet. These are all positives for me. Very pleased with my purchase
First thing I noticed is that this is a pretty smooth rum. Flavors are a nice caramel and vanilla and for the most part remain subtle. It's very balanced and not that sweet. While I really enjoy this rum, at the price point I would lean towards others that have a bit more character. But if bringing to a party to share with the guys for cigar night, you can't go wrong with this one.
A rich and complex rum! Deep amber colored with an aroma of caramel and so many more ...
Сначала показался так себе но распробовав оказался очень спиртовой, пресное послевкусие. Желания пить его дальше нет никакого. Поэтому моя оценка 6
I didn't try original barcelo but this one was very solid. Flavours of fruit, vanilla, oak and a lot of smoke. Little bit less smoke and more wood in taste and it could be 8.
EDIT: after couple of another sips I have to admit that it is better than I remember from first glass.
Not too sweet, strong flavour of oak (almost too much). Needs to rest in the glass. Otherwise a really good rum from Barcelo, well worth the money
The Barcelo Imperial Onyx owes its name to the filtering proces through onyx stones. Before that it is aged for 10 years in charred bourbon casks. This gives the rum a great complexity, which is very pleasant.
It's got a beautiful mahogany colour and a sweet and fruity nose. The fruit comes back in the tasting, together with some gentle oak. The sweetness is not overpowering the rest of the flavour. It is finished with a great fruity aftertase, which stays in the mouth pleasantly long.
Full, heavy, dark taste, rum for the real man. Blackberries. It's going way better with time.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This must be the better Barcelo Imperial, that was quite pleasant but also a little bit weak. This one has also only 38% abv. A little bit too weak, I would prefer 43%.
I get a lot of oak in the nose. There are some similarities to some woody rums like Mount Gay XO Triple Cask or Flor de Cana. Almost the same oaky nose with some orange peels. Some dry fuits, some grape seeds and vanilla are also in the nose.
The taste starts woody and a little bit sweet, not as light as Imperial. Not too bad for 38%. I get the orange peels, some paper, burned sugar and some grape seeds. The rum finishes with spice, wood and earthy barrel, dark dry fuits.
Enjoyable rum, not very complex, with more abv it could be better. Therefore 73 rating points.
I like the Barcelos in general because they are more mild in the finish. MG XO is more spicy and heavy in the taste.
