To me, this rum ticks most of the boxes. It has an age statement, it is not overly sweet, it says where it is from, price is about right.

And the nose is quite nice. Woody, fruity. And a hint of mouldy cardboard. Which I do not care for at all.
Seriously, I thought the cork had gone bad. But that is not the case, I believe.

Taste is medium sweet (I assume some sugar is added, but not in excess), vanilla, more fruity than I would have thought, pear, cherry conserve, sugar cane. And something like mouldy cardboard or a musty cellar. Very strange and not really that appealing to me. It might grow on me, but so far (about two years) it has not. The bottle has improved with some oxidation overall, but I still get more mould then I would like.
On the other hand, it is a relatively light rum, which still has quite a complex profile. Since it is the only Antiguan rum I tried so far, I am really in no position to judge. But in comparison to other rums that I know, this is quite unique. Which is good.

No idea where people get the whisky analogies from. This rum tastes nothing like any normal whisky. And I only add "normal" to rule possible freaky experimental rum-cask whiskies and the like.

Since everything comes together very nicely in this rum, I assume that it is meant to be that way. And that is fine ultimately. Might even grow on me further. For now, I find it OK-ish, not very good.

Beautiful honey yellow in the glass,
Fresh and fruity on the nose. Menthol and fresh wood build a certain thrill, medicinal herbs coated with caramel provide the twist.
Soft and pleasant on the palate with a special touch. Nicely balanced flavors of vanilla, caramel, wood and some lemongrass can be detected. Candied fruit and a bit of chocolate come in a smooth transition to the finish.
Long and fruity finish, some menthol remains at the end with cinnamon and chocolate nuances.
A good rum with an independent profile for warm summer days where beginners and connoisseurs meet.7+

Vanilla, fudge... not super complex or textured in mouthfeel; but a solid, sweet, easy to drink straight rum at a very decent price. Maybe it's a luxury shot; maybe it's an entry - level sipper? I don't think many will fall in love with it, but I can't imagine not liking it. Given it's sweetness, I don't think it would make a complex cocktail, but I imagine it would disappear in soda pop... Which, sometimes, is just what you want.

A pale golden colour. A light sweet smell, some sherry and honey, really nice. The taste is a little bit like a Whisky, not really sweet at first, later on it gets a little bit sweeter. The finish is short to medium long, a little bit sharp. A nice dram.

This rum gets better after some months in the bottle. It's first a little bit harsh.

I get some old celar in the nose, like in the Kirk& Sweeney 12. That's a smell of apricot with wood.
The taste starts also with the old celar, apricot with wood and vanilla. Quite simple taste, there is spice, some tanins and some alcohol in the finish.
Not very complex and young rum but not bad for the price.

Nose: vanilla, white oak, burned sugar, toasted cask, some apricot and peach, old celar
Taste: apricot, white oak, vanilla, soem burned sugar, peach
Finish: spice, some tanins, white oak and apricot

Sweetness: 1.5/5
Fruits: 2/5
Spice: 3/5
Mildness: 2.5/5
Complexity: 2/5
Value (18€): 3/5

This rum goes well with cola and I drink it straight up all the time. Simple but good taste!

Caramel nose, vanilla on the taste with a bitter burn that lingers, a bit rancid on finish which throws it off. Its like an unbalanced ron abuelo 12 year, similar start but gets wobbly on the finish
