Favourite rum. Complex and full taste. Probably the best for this price.
A favourite of mine to take the edge off, drink straight and over ice, do not ruin this with a mixer. A bit stronger and stiffer compared to a mount gay XO or Zacapa but full of flavour. Odes of tropical fruit and Vanilla ooze from this rum making it great for straight drinking. If I were to have to suggest a mixer I’d maybe go with a smoky Coca Cola at best.

Good taste, stylish bottle. The best in its price range.
One of my Favs. This is a smooth well balance flavour that finishes very smooth. Ice is optional
Scent is forcefully smoky and oldish. Taste has an slightly upfront sweetnes which gets stronger to the end), but also some liquerish/boozy notes in the middle, strong herbal flavour towards the end. Color is mahonagy and strong
Easily distinguishable levels, nice to drink, but no-go for me, too matte on the flavours and too herbal for my taste. But I can recommend if you want to test something a bit different :)
Great value for the money! Smooth and reasonably good
Stylish bottle contains golden brown liquid with moderate thickness.
Sweet aroma with hints of molasses and brown sugar, caramel and milk, very similar to creme brulee, which is continued by fruits like banana and orange. Sweet beginning is accompanied by delicate woody and smoky notes. The smell is absolutely free from any alcoholic hints. After around 20 minutes the aroma contains hints of cane (but not fermented like in the case of agricole).
Sugary and spicy first sip with some nutmeg taste and dried fruits. Seems water-dilluted but I can feel some milky notes followed by chocolate with thick sugary sweetness. At some point the initial mouth sensation gets covered by woody finish and the aftertaste is composed of chocolate, wood and leather.
It's a sweet one, not too complex but not bad after all.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Somehow you can't get past the Botucal Reserva Exclusiva. For 30-40 euros it is a cheap rum and can be bought almost everywhere in Germany. First of all, I can say that I don't understand the hype. Very negative is that the rum is strongly sugared - 44g/l.
In the nose, the rum is very sweet with spice. Some sweet and smokey notes which are quite appealing but give hope for more. On the palate, the botucal disappoints after all. A lot of sweetness from the added sugar destroys a lot of the flavors that the rum wants to offer. I noticed some caramel, toffee and smoke. Most of it is sweetness produced by sugar. The finish is the same sweet with some Toffee and spice. The rum disappeared after a short time and over remains a sticky taste and a film on the tongue that does not really make you want more.
Overall, the rum is totally overvalued. I cannot understand that. Apparently, for many, the high degree of sweetness is still crucial for a good rum. For the same money there are already many rums that have much more to offer. He just confirmed to me that I want to look for and enjoy rums with character and expressiveness. The Botucal can't score here. At party as a guest, I wouldn't say no, but I wouldn't drink it with a visitor at my home either. There are so many better Rums to choose from. But ot gets u drunk.
