Jamaica | Aged | 43% ABV

Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.

The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

Not as smooth as many, flavourful, but needs a mixer and lime/lemon

I don't completely understand this rum.
I perceived the flavor as smokey, but also questioned that assessment. Perhaps this is why "Appleton" figures in so many tiki recipes - it brings a complexity to its surroundings.
Notes from 8/8/21 Laka Lono, snifter with a side of cola.

This is a rum that has grown on me the more I have had of it. However, it is not something I would recommend to novice rum drinkers.

It has a very heavy and strong flavour. Diluting it with ice or water did little to reduce the punch it packed. If you can get through the punch there's a lot of flavour to appreciate here.

I suspect this could work well in cocktails, as it's flavour would run little risk of being lost, however, I am yet to experiment with this myself and will update when I know.

If you're wanting an Appleton's that is easier and smoother to sip I would recommend the 15.

Intenso aroma a la nariz, suave cuerpo al paladar, sabor intenso al final.

Although im not found of this style of Jamaican rum it has some proper tasting notes, dry and fruity, not overly woody aswell

I’m sure this is a great rum, but not for my pallet. The complex notes were not enjoyable for me.

I always reach for the Appleton extra 12 when looking for an aged rum for a tropical drink. Very little sweetness from the different blends. Still the same funky expression you've come to expect from a Jamaican rum, but dryer.

I currently use this as part of my Mai Tai recipe. Holds up well to the sharp and sweet flavors of tiki.

good, naturally sweet (it s very dry), vanilla, caramel, some oak,
for me it s drinkable, but i like much more the 21

This is my go to "everday" sipping rum. Great value for my taste.

I like this for mixing. It does not get lost in the cocktail. A boat bar we like uses it in Planters Punch and it works.
