Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

A relatively sweet blended molasses rum, but wonderfully round and mellow.
Nice navy style bottle.
Glass: Amber
Nose: What you need to expect, toffee, fruit, hint of spice
Mouth: Sharper than the 21, but liveliness balancing the sugar will appeal to some more than the mellower 21.
Burn: Gentle, sustained.
Probably not for whisky lovers, but I don't know anyone that did not like it.
Lots of banana and fruit. Quite sweet, but still a decent sipper.
After tasting this bottle i am convinced i need to buy the older brothers
Good, not great. Balanced flavors. Will drink neat but don't feel it's so special that I wouldn't be willing to drink on the rocks. Good "bargain" aged rum.
I just revisited this and at first sip- wow it's really good. After that it's just kinda a sweet mess of semi burnt caramel n oak w syrupy sugar body. It's worth trying if u never had it but I didn't like it as much my second time around. My opinion has changed and I think ED 8 year might b their best I've had at this point. Mind you my preferences fluctuate from sweet to dry, back and forth.
Basic brown in color. Modeller's glue on nose. Strong, soft barrel taste, oaky.
Well this one has ruined most other rums for me now. It's just awesome, quite sweet but I enjoy that. Pretty good deal at $40cad. I want to share this with people to get them to appreciate rum but am torn because I want it all for myself. I would highly recommend this.
i love the taste that will keep in your mouth.. the flavour is just perfect, full of different spice
Exceptionally smooth rum. Tried my friends and forgot to review so had a second try a month later and appreciated it's quality even more.
Lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar...
"El Dorado 12-Year rum review by Mike at Ultimate Rum Guide"
It’s sweeter with more delicate fruit flavours coming to the fore.
"It’s very sweet and quite light. It’s very easy drinking. As a sipping rum it as easy to drink."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

It's no secret quite a bit of sugar is added to this one. As shown by more serious drinkers/reviewers and their hydrometer tests. Such knowledge will influence your judgement when drinking but luckily I tasted the El Dorado before reading about it. And yes, it is clearly overly sweet. Most of my drinking buddies agree. I think it aims to a part of the (novice) market that thinks rums should taste like this, because, after all, the stuff is made from sugar cane. If you are looking for a smooth, sweet rum you are better off with the Diplomatico Exclusiva or the Zacapa 23. I found the El Dorado 12 quite monotonous.
