Well I'm an 18 year old who in contrary to literally every one of my friends enjoys good alcohol instead of drinking it for the sake of getting wasted. At first I bought it for my father as a present. He really liked it and so did I and shortly I just bought one for myself. I sadly don't have a lot of experience concerning rum but I'll get to compare it to the Cubaney Centenario soon which I ordered yesterday.
Had in BK. Good. Neat.............................
Got quite excited after tasting it's younger brother (the 12 Y.O.), so I obviously expected too much before sipping this one.
I don't mention that as an introduction to be followed by a comparison between them.
Both are nice and overall qualitative Rums. If you can spend the extra money, go for this one, at least once. It's more classy.
Personally, I wasn't able to justify the price difference.
Promised myself to try the "Insolent" edition and if necessary update both previous reviews...
first of all i was attracted to the bottle. high standard looking rum. sweet caramel and koffee flavors...
From Cartagena. Inside of this black bottle, you can find the history taste of my city. Vanilla from the barrels included
Smooth rum. Very sweet maple finish. One of my go to night caps
Very nice rum, vanilla, honey and cofee. I recommend this rum!
I was drawn to the name of this rum thinking it might be some gimmick but quickly found out this is some good rum! Just slightly more burn with an ounce less sweetness as El Dorado 21 Year Rum. Great vanilla, smoky, oak, and caramel.
To much caramel and oak for me. Maybe with coke or a lot of ice.
DICTADOR 20. Another bottler I just finish from Cartagena Colombia . I will begin by stating for the record that a wonderful rum like this 20 Year Old SOLERA SYSTEM may easily be drank neat at room temperature this would be my recommendation for anyone who is trying this rum for the first time. Is very complex and is easy to taste the waltnut flavoring if sipped. Very enjoyable.
There is a hint of tobacco and a touch of tar. Overall though its mostly sweet.
"It has a reasonable amount of alcohol burn to reassure you it is a 40% spirit. Itβs more like a kind of sherried flavoured vodka. Iβm sure such a drink exists somewhere."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Update: Tried this rum the day after, with a better result.
Less bitterness, and more of the rum taste, but still an unpleasant bitter sensation in the finish.
Update from a 3 to 4.
Interesting bottle, with a weird feel. Almost rubber like, but a funny ceramic sound.
First nose from the bottle - Port wine, sweet, prunes, vanilla, chocolate.
In the glass, beautiful amber color, lovely legs.
Nose - Caramel, vanilla, chocolate, molases.
Taste is strong at first. The notes of the rum is at first hidden by a bitter taste. Sweet in the middle, with a hint of vanilla and caramel, but again ending with a sharp bitterness.
Very weird rum. Initially expecting a lot from the bottle, nose, and color, but getting a weird, bitter tast that lasts all the way through. Its a real struggle to find the notes of the rum behind the bitter tast. Definitely not a favorite of mine. Bought it because I heard interesting things - Not always good things - about it, and I can say, this wont be going in the bar cabinet again when its empty.
