After sipping some XO and 8yr old, I was a bit unimpressed - though they weren't bad rums for the price. However, they just lacked something. My guess is that a higher ABV the nice flavours would be more bold and enjoyable. So I was hesitant to purchase the 12 yr. Though it is not bottled at a higher proof, for some reason the delicious flavours just stand out so much more. It SEEMS as if it's stronger. I'm not ready to dissect all the component flavours, just state that they work very well together.
Hard to fault this bajan rum but for a 40% bottling. Would definitely add a star if it had a bit more heat. That said if it’s an easy sipper you seek the Doorly’s 12 is a great choice and priced right.
On the dry side but not an oak bomb. Nice balance.
Décidement Foursquare ne me décoit toujours pas avec ce que je qualifierait simplement de "très bon rhum pour faire gouter du rhum à ceux qui ne connaissent pas le rhum". Pas "original", simplement une excellente limonade !
This is an exceptional rum. It is complex but not overpowering. Every time you sip it you'll find something new. It's rare for a rum to pull off a really well executed dryness but this does it. Two tiny comments, firstly, probably wouldn't start someone new to rum on this, they won't like it, unless they're a whisky person it will put them off. Secondly, needs a cork not a screw cap. Otherwise, always have a bottle in your cabinet, it's great to cross compare with.
... or caramel essence without the caramel flavor. It's hard to describe, but that's the feeling I got. This is a naturally sweet rum. Simple oak. Burnt sugar. The finish leaves the wood on the mouth. Nice! Didn't expect this from a Doorly's, which I's often thought were rather plain.
Paid $24.99 at Total Wine. Was recommended by many on this site, so I figured I would give it a chance. I was surprised to find that the bottle was a twist cap. Aroma is good but with a stronger alcohol edge. Initial taste is smooth, but has a slightly harsher finish than I'd like. Adding a splash of water really changes the finish. Overall not bad for the price, but not one of my top 5.
For me taste was to much sharp. Its less sweet, more raw. In this price category is much better buy abuelo or pyrat.
Geschmack zu oberflächlich, Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis stimmt nicht wirklich
one of the best 12YO aged rum, no sugar added, very nice aftertaste. very smooth. balanced
Familiar notes of vanilla and light toffee/caramel.
"An initial hit of sweetness, brown sugar and a little spicy pepper is overtaken by dry oaked flavour and a nice spiced heat. The finish is very smooth and long lasting."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Smoother than the Doorly's XO and significantly different - the younger Doorly's has more of a classic caramel/oak flavor while the elder has a deeper oaky flavor with hints of dried fruit. Both are delicious natural rums and some may call them "hot" compared to other sugary rums. The barrel aging really imparts a lot of flavor over the years. You get a lot of oaky bourbony flavor in this but it's not quite as sweet as bourbon itself. Update: I finally got a chance to try this side by side with MGXO which is lighter tasting, not as bold/sharp as the Doorly's 12 as well as being fruitier with more sweetness and vanilla. Doorly's 12 in comparison has more of a whiskey flavor and the age gives it a more funky wood/chocolate/dried fruit character. Update: loving this all over again, recently had real mccoy 12 year which helped me to taste the bourbon flavor in this rum even more and further notice the fruitiness not found in whiskeys. Time helps it so much as well. Can't beat it for the price, drink it neat!
