Black Tot Master Blender’s Reserve 2023

This bottling from the Elixier Distillery is the next Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve bottling for the year 2023. The proportion of the 2022 blend is quite high and it now has a higher proportion of Trinidad. The exact composition can be seen in the picture. The rum was bottled with 54.5% alcohol without additives.

The rum is no longer as dark on the nose as its predecessor. Still, I get nice roasted aromas, nut, chocolate and dried fruits and caramel. The rum is round and balanced. On the palate, the rum is nice and spicy with a clear barrel influence. I get chocolate, nut and vanilla again. Roasted aromas, tannins of wood and leather. But also tropical fruits. The finish is rusty with more mocha and leather. The rum remains balanced and dry. Overall, the rum is creamy and nice and round.

In direct comparison, I like this blend a little better than the 2022 bottling, because it is a bit fresher. A nice rum that is very drinkable. The Jamaica and Trinidad share is more noticeable. Unfortunately, it also doesn't bring so much new that it's worth the extra 30€ compared to the 2021. In addition, the rum now comes in a cardboard box, which I personally think is a shame.

Diese Abfüllung von der Elixier Distillery ist die nächste Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve Abfüllung für das Jahr 2023. Der Anteil des 2022 Blends ist recht hoch und er hat nun einen höheren Trinidad Anteil. Die genaue Zusammensetzung ist auf dem Bild erkennbar. Der Rum wurde mit 54,5% Alkohol ohne Zusatzstoffe abgefüllt.

Der Rum ist in der Nase nicht mehr so dunkel wie sein Vorgänger. Trotzdem bekomme ich schöne Röstaromen, Nuss, Schokolade und getrocknete Früchte und Karamel. Der Rum ist rund und ausgewogen. Am Gaumen ist der Rum schön würzig mit deutlichem Fasseinfluss. Ich bekomme Schokolade, wieder Nuss und Vanille. Röstarmonen, Tannine von Holz und Leder. Aber auch tropische Früchte. Der Abgang ist rostig mit mehr Mokka und Leder. Der Rum bleibt ausgewogen und trocken. Insgesamt ist der Rum cremig und schön rund.

Dieser Blend gefällt mir im direkt Vergleich etwas besser als die 2022er Abfüllung, da er etwas frischer wirkt. Ein schöner Rum der sehr gut trinkbar ist. Der Jamaika und Trinidad Anteil ist deutlicher merkbar. Leider bringt er auch nicht so viel neues, dass er den Aufpreis von 30 Euro gegenüber dem 2021er wert ist. Dazu kommt der Rum jetzt in einem Pappkarton was ich persönlich schade finde.

Schokolade, Kaffee und Gewürzen. Bitterer und wesentlich trockener als die 2022 Version. Immernoch ein ausgezeichneter Rum aber kommt an den Vorgänger nicht ganz ran. Langer Abgang mit Zimt Aromen.
