This bottling from the rum club comes from Jamaica from the Hampden Distillery and was made in 2001 in pot style. The rum was allowed to be stored continentally for 19 years. The rum was bottled with a cask strength of 59.4% alcohol without additives or filtration as a single cask in 49 pointless magnum bottles. Apparently every bottler needs his XXXL bottle at some point.
Typical Hampden notes on the nose. Fermented tropical fruit, pineapple and glue. The ester content is nicely balanced. Add vanilla, some citrus and caramel. The nose is funky and round. But also more restrained than the little brother of the Edition 17. On the palate, the rum is simply awesome. Tropical fruits, banana and vanilla. The wood influence is now more present with beautiful spice and roasted aromas. Add some caramelized sugar and the Ester Funk. The rum is very balanced, creamy and round. The finish is a little more woody with more ester and some pepper. Slightly astringent and medicinal, the rum remains present in the mouth for a long time.
An absolutely great Hampden bottling which shows all the strength of the continental storage, as the rum is very well balanced. Almost everything is right here. Only the nose of the Edition 17 is simply better, because it is a bit cheekier. And this stupid Magnum concept steals some of the joy. One sample will have to suffice
Diese Abfüllung vom Rumclub kommt von Jamaika aus der Hampden Distillerie und wurde 2001 im Pot Style hergestellt. Anschließend durfte der Rum 19 Jahre kontinental lagern. Abgefüllt wurde der Rum mit einer Fassstärke von 59,4% Alkohol ohne Zusatzstoffe oder Filtration als Single Cask in 49 sinnlose Magnum Flaschen. Anscheinend braucht jeder Abfüller irgendwann mal seine XXXL Flasche.
In der Nase typische Hampden Noten. Vergorene tropische Frucht, Ananas und Klebstoff. Der Ester Gehalt ist schön ausbalanciert. Dazu Vanille etwas Zitrus und Karamel. Die Nase ist funky und rund. Aber auch zurückhaltender als beim kleinen Bruder von der Edition 17. Am Gaumen ist der Rum einfach genial. Tropische Früchte, Banane und Vanille. Der Holzeinfluss ist jetzt präsenter mitbeiner schönen Würze und Röstaromen. Dazu etwas karamellisierter Zucker und der Ester Funk. Der Rum ist sehr ausgewogen, cremig und Rund. Der Abgang ist etwas holziger mit mehr Ester und etwas Pfeffer. Leicht Adstringent und medizinisch bleibt der Rum lange im Mund präsent.
Eine absolut tolle Hampden Abfüllung welche die ganze Stärke der kontinentalen Lagerung zeigt, da der Rum sehr gut ausbalanciert ist. Hier stimmt fast alles. Nur die Nase ist bei der Edition 17 einfach besser, da etwas frecher. Und dieses dumme Magnum Konzept klaut etwas die Freude. Da wird ein Sample reichen müssen.
