The Ron Zacapa Centenario XO is a solera rum from Guatemala, which was blended from different rums between 10-25 years. The rum made in Column Style is made from sugar cane honey, which means nothing else than a sugar cane syrup is used. The rum is bottled in a pretty bottle with 40% alcohol and contains caramel coloring, approx. 20g/l sugar and glycerin.

The rum is very thick and sweet on the nose. Lots of caramel and burnt sugar, vanilla, toffee and caramelized fruit. There is also a light barrel and wood influence. The Nose is ok. On the palate, the rum is mainly very sweet with caramel, vanilla and burnt brown sugar. There is also some wood and a very slight bitter note from the barrel. The rum is creamy while drinking, but the body is thin and evaporates quickly at the same time (Sugar and Glycerin at it's finest). Not much is left and the rum wants to be drunk quickly so you don't start thinking about it.

The Zacapa XO is rather disappointing for me, without having any real expectations. The influence of sugar and glycerin is clearly visible. The profile one-dimensional and boring. For 100 euros, the quality is not sufficient and the taste is clearly intended for the mass market. A super easy sipper, which you could use for getting drunk and for harmless drinking if it weren't so expensive. Please buy three bottles of Botucal (Diplomatico) because it has the same quality and has the same purpose. Fast easy drinking.

Quite a nice rum, really has 2 profiles for me.

Neat, not quite my drink, woody with a short bite and a burn, no real flavour profile.

On the rocks, whole new rum, with a block of ice and let it mellow it opens up the flavour.

Becomes a woody smokey mellow rum with a nice tail that leaves a smooth taste in your mouth. You can just sip the whole bottle.

Rated only a 7 though as it is far from amazing. The price is the problem. It is super expensive and you can get 2 bottles of something really good for the same price.

Worth it to try, especially if you like XO rums which I do.

Pours a perfect dark copper color. Big brown sugar aroma. This is liquid brown sugar! Loads of dark brown sugar and molasses flavors, very smooth. Wish it was stronger than 80%. Absolutely delicious.

For zacapa 23 lovers, for me it is a rum that is easy to drink, light enough to start your evening. XO which is 25, has more body into it, so a nice continuation of the party. Recommend to those who find 23 too fruity or sweet.

An even beter version of one of my favorite runs. Smoother, tastier and joyful to nose and tongue.

Good price for a rum with a pleasant smell and taste. Rather mild, slightly sweet. You can drink without additives.

Its a great rum. My first experience was in Guatemala & it was divine. Found it here & bought one...worth the money! So smooth.

With this one, It is very easy to get freinds over for a sip, it has some woody notes, ripe fruit, spices, bitter cocoa and hints of almond and vanilla and not the least the look of the bottle is impressive

Beautiful amber colour. Not too much alcohol on the nose, but lots of ripe fruit and and sweet dates. On the tongue it has an oakiness that reminds me of brandy. Some marzipan. Ripe fruit remains. Rich flavour. A bit too much alcohol on the tongue though, which I find dries it a little. Although it is very smooth without much burn going down. Those who do not like sweeter rums may find it a little too sweet, but think it strikes a nice balance. It isn't cheap. But it comes closer to matching its cost than other premiums I have tried. Worth a try if you have not.
