Appleton Estate Rare Casks 12-Year

After having it about 18 months in my cabinet, I had to just dump this one, I wanted to like it and never could. The Appleton Joy on the other hand is one of the best rums ever made - to me.

I love Appleton Estate distillery and the 21 years old is my favourite rum ever. This 12 years old rum is its younger brother and fortunately it is much cheeper. A very complex rum, funky (especially in the aftertaste) and oaky in both nose and mouth. It has its sweetness, given by some vanilla flavours, but I found the 21 years old to be much sweeter. Surely a top quality jamaican rum

Im Geruch Alkohol, Melasse, ein wenig gedörrte Früchte, Vanille….
Im Geschmack dominiert am Anfang ein wenig der Alkohol, ein wenig Süße, dann kann man gedörrte Früchte, Feigen, rausschmecken.
Im Abgang Final Beeren und Holz.

Kommt meiner Meinung nicht ganz an den 12 Jährigen Rare Blend heran, deswegen knapp aber doch die 7 verfehlt. Werde das aber nochmal Gegentesten.
Aber es bleibt eine gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.

This, to me is what rum is all about. Nice smooth aroma. Deep flavor. Although there is a bit too strong of an alcohol burn in the aftertaste but that can be cut down a fair amount by adding an ice cube. Really good rum at a fair price. I was also considering Appleton Black River cask but for about $20 more I do not see the point. Why pay 50% more when it is hard to imagine it being much better than this.

Very easy to drink neat. Banana flavours and vanilla.

It has quite a nip at the beginning with Hazelnut and then an exploding flavor of cocoa and vanilla to end it off. I will say that the flavor doesn't linger as long as I would like and it is a bit harsh upon sipping.

This is an amazing 12 year rum! I don't understand the sub 8 scores for this one.

Vanilla, oak, and subtle banana notes. Very smooth and very good.

i see people saying is better than the old bottle but for me is the same rum, dry with some vanilla and caramel, good finish, this is the iconic basic Jamaican sipper, 8 to the old bottle and 8 to this too !
