I was lucky enough to be able to buy two bottles of this from the Boutique at the distillery.
I was fully expecting it to be stupidly expensive, given the unusually high ratings this rum (rhum) has garnered on here, but it was surprisingly cheap at the equivalent of £110 per bottle, once exchange rates are taken into account.
The idea was that I would get two bottle so I could drink one and sell the other on Ebay, but apparently, that's not allowed. I'm half way through the first bottle now and I'm thinking that unless I get a generous offer, I'll just keep it for myself.
I haven't quite figured this rum (rhum) out yet.
Whilst at he distillery, I tasted their young white rum, Coeur de Cann and found it interesting, but not really terribly enjoyable ... I'm in no particular rush to try it again.
La Flibuste , however is possibly the most unusual rum (rhu... you get the point) I have tasted so far.
I'm finding it difficult to describe the notes I get either on the nose or in the mouth ... there's definitely cognac, bourbon and ... bear with me here ... cola nut. The sweetness comes from demerara and treacle. I feel that there is oak there, but it is masked by something I can't quite put a name to.
The single most impressive thing about this rum is the amount of time you taste it for, after swallowing. It goes on for literally hours.
I kinda feel about this rum, the same way I felt about the novels of WIlliam S. Burroughs ... I don't really understand it, but I definitely know I want to explore it further in the vain hope that I will "get" it.
I haven't tried it with a cigar ... it doesn't feel like the right thing to do.
The only thing I know for sure is that once I take the last sip of a glass, I am finding it exceedingly difficult to not pour another.

If you get the chance, you should definitely try this stuff, if for no other reason than you can help me understand it.

I am fortune enough to have tried over 100differnt rum as on my bar shelf in my restaurant in the Caribbean and Le Favorite is, by far the very best rum I have ever came across. It's complexity is imparabel and it's nose and pallet some thing I would wish every rum lover would have the opportunity to try as the ultimate measure to not only good, but excellent rum.

Note : 82,5/100

PARFAIT.

The aroma is a surprising mix of sweetness, spice, and smoke, all of which carries over onto the tongue, the incredible flavor delivered with a remarkable smoothness that truly belies La Flibuste’s advanced age.
It has an exceptionally attractive dark color that I find mesmerizing

Clear and Deep Brown color.
Clean Pronounced aromas of Grass from the cane is the most present, then your further get burnt sugar, vanilla, fruit cake and I think wood polish..
Sweet with a Mouth-filling texture, Pronounced flavors first of the grass and burnt sugar, then aromas of banana, vanilla, mix fruits and an ended note of tobacco, all in the most balanced way which lasts for a Long length and Very complex on the finish.
Outstanding quality.
