A cut above the Captain's Original Spice. It still has a bit of sweetness, but someone with a sweet-tooth like mine could even make it a sipper in a pinch. Delicious in a pina colada.

Downing it in an hour playing D&D and had no regrets.

Really enjoyed, not the best I have had but pretty smooth compared to some others of a higher price. Not sure how ages it is. Slight maple taste?

Captain Morgan is a reliable drink because every bar stocks it - this takes the standard bottle and adds a whole lot of deliciousness! The vanilla notes are a bit strong, but otherwise I really enjoy this one.

There are so many mixed reviews on this one, so I had to try the top rated one from The Captain since their 1671 was long gone before I could try it. As you can tell, I am now running out of rums to try that are easily available and priced sensibly. I knew before I plunked down $26 for this bottle that it was a sugar bomb with 45 grams per liter of added sugars and other things. God knows what, but it screams artificial. All I can taste is pepper, vanilla, and strange chemicals. This will give you one king hell of a hangover the next day if you drink more than one small glass. I am not about to try because I know what will happen based up my knowledge of added sugars. This one is just too much. But to new rum drinkers, it may just taste good because it takes a few years to graduate from ice cream and snow cones full of syrup.

To give you an idea, as of this writing, the top 12 most popular rums on this site all have 20 grams per liter of added sugar or more except for Havana Club 7 from Cuba that is not available in the USA. Interesting find! Most new rum drinkers are attracted to those sweet rums and sugar bombs. How does one break that cycle and work their way down to dry rums with only 0-9 gpl of added sugar.? Drink LOTS of this stuff in one night!!!! Suffer like hell the next day!!!! Then you will be looking up semi-dry rums (with only 10-19 gpl of added sugar) and most of those will not make you sick the next day.

Update 11 days later: As usual with any new rum, I only take one sample for the rating and then leave the bottle sit for months unless it is really good. This one had all the makings of eventually going down the drain despite my generous rating of 5. I poured some on the rocks and it is at least tolerable to drink. There are also a lot of rums that are worse than this one that I have ranked even lower in my "cabinet". Since this is the best from the Captain, I now change their name to Captain Crap! Of the two other mass producers of rum, both Bacardi and Cruzan each have 5 rums that I have rated better than this one.

Youngsters, do yourself a favor and bid anything by The Captain farewell and shove his ass out to sea without a paddle!!! It is now time for you to move on to MUCH better rums!

This must be one of the best rums at this price range. Certainly sweet, lots of vanilla, but very easy to sip and put in a flask for an overnight backcountry trip. Highly recommended to anyone looking for an affordable tasty rum, it is much better than your standard captain!

When i just want a nice neat glass of Rum, this is my go to. It’s priced nicely, and can be dressed up too.

I could not enjoyed this spiced rum.
Too sweet, and too much spicy flavor for me.

My problem with this rum is that I can't really get all that much rum flavor. there is just too much spice for my palate. It's easy to drink and smooth. Decent in a rum and coke. It is very sweet and has a big, huge really, vanilla profile.
A bit sticky and spicy for me but an easy drinker for most.

I could even go so far as to say, thus far, this is one of my all time favorite rums. It's smooth, full and absolutely delicious.

Very nice . Smooth. Not overly sweet. Do not turn up your nose on this because it is a commercial product.
