Does anyone else have a rum advent calendar? I'm new to rum having only discovered it in lockdown. Mainly I've been drinking Appleton's, Kirk and Sweeney and chairman's but wanted to broaden my horizons without breaking the bank ( I know advent calendars are expensive but cheaper than 24 full size bottles). I'd read a lot of rum reviews on here but without any reference point it's difficult to know what I enjoy. It has been a tough day at work and the excitement of trying something new really helped. I wasn't disappointed. Today was a white rum (new to me) William George that has made my lounge smell like banana, seems like it would make amazing fruity cocktails. Here's to the next 23 days!

Do you have a strong Port Mourant rum? Mix it with ElD12 (1:3).

I'm learning already. Today was El Dorado 12 year, I thought I would like this but really hated the coffee aftertaste I got. Not for me but I can see why others might like it.

Hi PL512, welcome to the fantastic journey through the rum world and enjoy it ! You have to find your favourite rum style you like. At the moment you are used to dry-rums, it means rum without sugar added or less 5 gr. Yes, I do have a rum calendar, at the moment the "24 days of rum" by 1423. Calendars or tasting sets will give you a wider horizon in the world of rum and you don't need to burst the bank. One day you will have a nice surprise (had 3 or 4 years ago a 12-year Caroni from Velier) the other day just crap. Appleton, Kirk and Sweeney and Chairman's is quite nice start, Appleton V/X was my first love in the 90' .
