Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.

The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

Oh my, over a year since I reviewed this. I was excited when I found it at a big liquor warehouse. But it was a different bottle and different experience. Sill a very good rum. But not as I reviewed in 2015. Until now I hadn't realized the bottle that showed up in my cabinet was not what I'd had. I'll post both. I'm still not sure what the difference is? Both are 20th anniversary edition. Both are XO but no specific age. Both are Barbados rum. The rum I
Prefer and gave a 9 to is the shorter, squater bottle without the string/rope mesh around the bottle.

The bottle with the mesh is slightly less sweet. It is darker, than the honey gold of the shorter bottle. It doesn't have as much complexity. It's still a decent sipper but falls short of great.

Here's my original review. It is for the shorter, squater, empty:-( bottle on the left.
This is a very complex rum. It's not overly sweet and through the aging process used it does share some characteristics of Cognac. There is a fair amount of oak for a rum. Vanilla, caramel and I think I'm picking up coconut and even chocolate. There's no burn and a long finish. If you're going to spend the money know your rums or you won't appreciate this as much as it deserves!

One of my favorite rums. Sweet. Caramel and butterscotch coming through. Smooth medium bodied. My one complaint would be it could be more full bodied with longer lasting flavors. Overall plantation rums are fantastic blenders and all great rums for the price.

Had high hopes for this one but came away slightly disappointed. After a little time in the glass, it opened up nicely and offered a nice flavor profile. Still had just a bit too much rough edge to it to get me seeking it out regularly. Definitely an interesting, flavorful option...just think it could have been more.

One of my favorite rums. The only negative aspect: the bottle is so small...

Dommage

By far my favourite rum of the moment, cheap enough to buy and drink copious amounts . Still have a small reserve of Pyrat Cask 1623, that I drink on special occasions which now due to Plantation might not see the light of day!

Incredibly smooth, just the right amount of sweetness, & vanilla tones.
Bottle is a beauty on the shelf.
You won’t be disappointed!
