Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

I don't get easily surprised...but this one did it. If I can put my reaction into one word it would be, smooth.
Despite the "XO" rating there's not much oak to this one. It's there...but its not as strong as you'd expect.
This is a rum that deserves to be from Barbados! It's not cheap but you'll understand the price tag when you enjoy the quality and taste. This is a rum drinker's rum.
A last minute purchase with not much background on this rum. What an exciting and raw taste that took me by complete surprise. This has easily become one of my favourites.

Are corpolenta, gust bogat si rafinat. Caracteristica de baza sunt aromele care raman in paladin. Putin cam scump dar merita incercat.

This Rum is just as Rum should be. Not too sweet, lots of aromas, long lasting. For 30€ the best I got so far.

I am a fan of Mount Gay and that just keeps it going for me. I like the regular mount gay a lit and with the XO it just makes me want more from Mount Gay. I know next time I'm in Barbados I have to go on the distillery tour.

Real enjoyed this bottle. It's dark but not thick. Lots of flavor that comes across every drink. Absolutely worth the cost.

With a good cigar and a warm evening. We grill fish then sit back and enjoy MGXO on the rocks with a good cigar.

Tasted with a dear rum-drinking friend of mine. Due to the reviews I would never have bought one since it would be more for whiskey lovers. It is a really well balanced rum with a nice alcohol-bite. Then comes a little sweetness wich lingers on for a while. Will certainly go out and buy one.

This was enjoyable but I preferred the mount gay eclipse more even though it's not as "premium" asXO

I have tried the updated blend, from ex-whisky, ex-bourbon, ex-cognac barrels. This is a beautifully crafted rum, a true classic with slightly lighter tones than the old blend by adding the ex-cognac barrels aged part which I appreciate. Beautiful, rich nose, with hits of coconut, oak and champaign, well matching, balanced taste which adds tones of vanilla, toffee, spices and charred oak. To give it a better score - I would appreciate more refined finish, it is kind of earthy, with hoppy bitterness to it - but nevertheless, it is a an honest unadulterated rum, no sugar, true pleasure.
