Let's get the stupid stuff out of the way first. I find it interesting that the way the bottle is shaped and the thickness of the glass makes for a chiming rhythmic sound when you hold it with two fingers by the neck (just below the lip) and drum on the plastic cap. BTW, the plastic cap and the artificial "cork" are one of the few detrimental elements of this rum. It is a tight fit and I've read more than one complaint of people having the cork break apart from the plastic cap when attempting to uncork the bottle. That element of cheapness should not be present in a rum that costs $40+.

I'm easily amused.

Anyway, this rum is somewhat paradoxical for me. Very little odor in the bottle and the flavor is equally as subtle. Not sweet but really not dry either. Has some woodiness to it. I don't know how they achieved this. I don't mean this has no flavor or character because it has both but from all the rums I've sampled thus far this one is arguably the best balanced one of them all. It would make for a good sipping rum as well as a good mixer. It won't overwhelm mixed drinks but instead complements what is used whether is be fruit based, coffee, frozen or just in a cola. Definitely a "must have".

Recently went to the Dominican and wanted to bring rum home with me. Grabbed a bottle of this and was very pleased.

I like my rums unsweetened, so I bought this one after reading reviews here and elsewhere confirming the leathery flavor. Wish I had noticed that it's bottled at just 38%. Not a deal-breaker, but I do think that's a large part of why I think this rum is missing the kick that my favorite rum, Mt. Gay XO, has. Flavors are definitely similar, though this has more of that leather taste that so many have mentioned. Certainly very enjoyable, and I may find it improves with time as it ages in the bottle.

This was my favourite at rumfest 2015. Very smooth. Maybe not quite a 9 but getting there.

found this at a local liquor store for only 22 EUR. overall taste not too outspoken on one element, but remains soft and smooth throughout. just poored from the bottle the after taste hints a sweetness which tastes added and throws off the balance a bit. leaving it in the glass for a bit longer solves this. price helps the rating by 1 add point as I dont have to worry about emptying the bottle and having to buy another one at this price.

This rum is super harsh at first, but the smell is pretty good, so I let it breathe for a couple of minutes and then tasted again. It was still pretty strong, but I could taste actual flavour in the rum which I found intriguing and satisfying. It doesn't seem to be sweetened too much (if at all) and stays true to the original rum concept without heavily relying on added sugar. I wouldn't probably buy this again, but if someone served me this rum, I would still take it quite happily. Plus it is a solid option for 22 euro. Some retailers including the dealer to my area state that this blend consists of rums AT LEAST ten years old, which I find extremely unlikely and in contradiction to some other statements.

J'ai aimé son goût, pas trop sucré mais pas apre non plus. Il faut attendre 10 bonnes minutes que l'alcool se dissipe. Content de mon achat...

Very well presented in a nice bottle, with a cork that you really have to tug out.
It’s a dark amber, almost red at times colour, with good legs in the glass.
Warming, smokey, leather and a decent amount of oak come through, hardly any burn and a taste that lingers, though not to long. Naturally sweet, one to be enjoyed neat.
£32 from Amazon, priced about right I would say.
Enjoy, graham.

Aroma fuerte a alcohol pero relativamente suave al paladar, espectacular con Coca Cola, no tanto puro.

I miss the sweetness and smoothness. A very dry and a bit harsh rum. Perfect for mixing. Very good price, for sure worth a try, you can do no mistake.

Some say that this shape of a bottle of rum does not fit, but I like it very much. The Imperial name fits well. The color is rather semi-dark, smells sweet. Sweetness will also show up when tasting, and will also please non-rum enthusiasts. When swallowed, it does not scratch and generally acts very cultivated. Due to its pleasant taste and interesting bottle it is also a good gift. I strongly recommend this rum!
