Very good rum, better than Plantation OFTD, Eight Islands and Kill Devil Navy Strength.
The nose is great, very rich, intensive and fruity. No need to dilute it, it's perfect at 57% and still mild (this comment is not for beginners and sweet rum lovers).

The taste is not as balanced as the nose, backed apples are very intensive. I would mix some high ester Hampden inside. But it's also fruity without the high ester pineapple note and still delicious.
Very cheap btw, I paid just 25€ for the bottle of 0.7l and with 57% it has exceptionally good value. If you love strong and fruity rum, this is the best you can get for under 50€.
Would give this one 80 points.

Nose: backed apple, sweet and fruity with papaya, green banana, herbs/gras, pumpkin, caramel, honey
Taste initial: backed apple, honey, grasy notes
Taste middle: honey, some bitterness, dunder (ripe vegetables), citrus, spice
Finish: long, with spice, bitter notes and honey, backed apple again, some barrel
Aftertaste: very fruity, peppermint

Sweetness: 2.5/5
Fruity: 4/5
Spice: 2.5/5
Mildness: 3/5
Intensity: 4/5
Complexity: 4/5
Value (23€): +5/5
Experience level: professional

Experiment 1: just mixed a hint of my 9y Hampden DOK inside. I ruined the nose, got a lot of citrus but almost no pineapple, killed the grasy notes and the honey. But the taste became a beauty, much more balanced. Less dunder, more fruits.
I'm not satisfied with it. I'm going to try a <>H Hampden next time.

Experiment 2: just mixed a 17y Bristol Caroni 1998 inside. The nose bacame less fruity and dirty (earth and barrel). Still some papaya left.
The taste is again very good, the honey and dunder is still present but overall less fruity.
Not satisfied.

Experiment 3: I mixed a hint of Kill Devil Hampden C<>H 10y 64% inside. The dunder in the nose is gone, there is pineapple and citrus in the nose. Also some grasy notes and other fruits are left.
The taste is overhelmed by pineapple. The grasy notes are gone.
It's not bad, there is some malt in the aftertaste and the honey is also still in the taste. Good blend, strong and spicy. Very complex.
Better than pure Smith and Cross? Maybe, would rate it 83.

Experiment 4: Mixed with Hampden Estate 8 is the best combination. The dunder is almost gone the whole composition is the best one. It's balanced, fruity with malt in the aftertaste. Just a beautiful blend and a great Hampden. This is a 85 for me.

Smith and Cross makes an amazinggggg Daquiri! It is def one of my go to’s. Don’t think there will be a time when I don’t have it on my shelf.

Excellent as a navy strength mixer. As a standard mixer for cocktails, I'm not a fan of the higher proof options, but that is a personal preference.

Nice overproof jamaican rum with a lot of funk and flavour. S&C definitely has a regular place in my bar. Excellent rum for cocktails especially tiki drinks!

The nose hits immediately with plenty of Jamaican funk - strong aromas of overripe banana and nutmeg mix with stinky gym socks but also something like Juicy Fruit gum. Pretty interesting! The palate is lighter and smoother than I expected, with spicy, alcohol heat that starts things off, which then subsides to reveal dry ginger and pear, before going out on a long finish. You can taste something like ginger ale 2 minutes after. With a few drops of water, the aromas and palate smooth out and even off, without losing their original components. This is very good rum but I think I’d prefer it as a mixer, or in punch, instead of sipping too much of it. It packs a wallop at 57% abv. A quality rum.

Hogo forward and overproof, this is a staple cocktail rum. Great way to add that jamaican funk! Not everyone's cup of tea though...

I like HOGO and I like funk. This gets the job done and brings that tropical note to anything it touches. Definitely one of the best out there, especially at the price-point.

Scupper, sink, and burn me! This be a fierce rum! Fiercer than raw pork on an unsuspectin' crew member's guts. Fiercer than gettin' a kick to the forward anchor by an angry wench wearin' pointy boots. You get the idea... savvy? On the nose, this rum be sweet. Not syrupy sweet. Not "oh please let me sail with you; i'll do anythin' to sail with you" sweet. A good sweet that be nowhere near dry. There also be oak and bananas. OLD bananas, like the kind with the vapors that bring a tear to your eye from rottin' in the sun for weeks. Not OLD bananas like Stumpy the Cook who be in desperate need of a bath. There be other fruit smells, maybe a bit of flowery smell, spices, and of course, alcohol - which is why we be drinkin' "Ol' Stinkfist" to begin with! As for taste, she be not as sweet, but still a bit sweet, like burned sugar. There be a bit of oak and fruit, but the spices come on strong in the finish. This rum be smooth with a great body and a considerable burn. The burn goes away after a few... but by that point, you'll be three sheets to the wind. You won't care that you can't feel your face. You won't care that you introduced your best crew member to the sharks. You won't care about that kick to the forward anchor. You won't care that you voted against yourself for new captain. You just won't. Now, might this be a sippin' rum? The better question might be "Might you be a REAL pirate?"

This is a one of the stronger smelling rums that I have ever tasted. It has a very bold taste.

Well this is a pretty fierce. It’s super tasty just needs easing back a bit. To the nose it’s smokey, wood chips and caramel. Kinda bbq. Tasting is like... oooh wooooow. The flavour just blooms in you mouth. Heavy funk with a bit of sweetness and a pleasing heat (rather than straight up burn). It’s excellent stuff. Mixes really nicely in a range of cocktails as well.

Finally got to try it in a local tiki bar and wow! That’s the most awesome rum I’ve tried so far. It is a explosion of aromas and flavours, just sensational. Banana is the star of the show along with other earthy notes. And What is even more incredible, it that it is so smooth for a navy rum I had it neat with a smile in my face. I need a bottle now!
