My secret weapon in any tiki drink calling for aged Jamaican rum even great on its own or just in an old fashioned.
Je l'ai goûté seulement straight sans glace. Au nez sent très bon, fort en bouche mais avec une belle longue finale.
The color of the rum is gold. And has a very molasses type smell people talk about some sort of funk. But I am unable to smell these type of things but what I can tell you what it has is a molasses smell. It is a super strong rum and I’ve tried it so far with Coca-Cola and when you mix it with Coca-Cola it taste kind of like whiskey and Coke. I mixed it with goslings ginger beer and it emboldens the ginger beer. This is a very very good rum. And can last you a long time because a little goes a long way with this stuff. If you’re going to mix it with eggnog or any mix drink a little goes a long way. I stress saying this. Because people who don’t know or are not used to it just think that they can drink it like a regular rum. And you cannot do it like that. Had it again a couple of days ago with Coca-Cola, and a squeeze of lime, and it is one of the most excellent rum and cokes I’ve ever had.
Great atuff
Vanilla finish
Oaky. And smokey and fruit notes
Heavy funk on the nose, overripe banana, apple juice, burnt rubber and molasses, on the palate starts as sweet pineapple marmalade with mashed banana, turning towards bitter grapefruit and molasses, simple but strong, the aftertaste is long, fruity, with an acohol afterburn. When I tasted it first time, I did not realized this is an overproof rum so I thought - quite a strong afterburn wo got here, but when I realized this is 57%, I thougt - well, the afterburn is actually more than ok. It is a young, bitter sweet wild beast, well worthy my pocket flask to spice a cup of tea on an autumn afternoon walk.
Seriously, I don't think it's very high in esters, I guess about 200/hlaa. I don't even think it's strong enough.
Caramel, oak, bright yellow fruit aromas like mango pineapple banana, but too concentrated, like only one or two esters.
Damn, it was so sweet, like extra sugar was added. I can't stand such a sweet wine.
Of course, considering it's so cheap, ¥235, it's definitely worth the money.
a bit bitter..and it got ATTITUDE

The smell is rich, sugary, heavy molasses.
"It leaves a long lasting tingle on the tongue and in the roof of your mouth. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

At 57% ABV (114 proof) this navy strength rum will kick your ass. I will stomp a mudhole in ya and walk it dry. Definitely not a rum for the uninitiated. Initially upon sipping one gets a taste of sweetness...molasses...a little vanilla...and then the burn hits...a burn which feels like a layer of skin is being eaten away in ones throat leaving a little tingling on the tongue. But that all fades rather quickly enticing one to take another sip. Almost as a double-dog dare. This is he-man's rum. The amber color belies how little aging goes into this rum. I really cannot identify the aroma in the bottle but it's a good aroma. Admittedly this is the first overproof rum I have sampled so I really have no frame of reference but from the flavor I would seriously think it would work well in mixed drinks especially frozen and fruit-based drinks. Quite an interesting rum.
[UPDATE: A day after posting my initial review I tried this rum with Coke Zero. For whatever it's worth I used my normal 3oz of rum mixed with the 16.9oz bottle of Coke Zero knowing full well this was going to have more of a "kick" than the normal 80 proof rums I normally use in Coke Zero. Although it wasn't horrible, it wasn't good either. Ended up tossing it and fixing another rum & Coke Zero with an 80 proof rum. I will try it again someday but with half the amount of the S&C Navy Strength rum and see how that works.]
