Ron Zacapa XO Rum is produced in the highlands of Guatemala where it is distillled from fresh cane juice. The rum is then aged from 6 to 23 years at 7544 feet above sea level at 62 °F (17 °C) using the solera process. The solera aging process incorporates barrels that previously held American whiskeys, sherries, wines and Cognac
The unique Ron Zacapa XO glass decantur features an impression of a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle

I did not give this rum a 10 because of its price, very expensive at $106.00 a bottle. AWSOME rum but in my opinion not worth the price. Dos Maderas 5+5 can be purchased for 75% less, Plantation XO 20th Anniversary for 50% less, Zacapa 23 for 50% less and all these rums are just as good tasting and smooth.
This is an amazing rum but it sadly got very expensive. I bought my last bottle for about 65 EUR but now I can only find it for over 150 EUR. Sad because it's amazing. Lots of vanilla and tropical fruits with some caramel. Grape notes with figs following the aformentioned notes.
Fine rum that delights the palate with hints of sugar cane and notes of oak, with smooth undertones.
Color is rich oak, light mahogany. Nose is complex with a butterscotch majority as it sits. Lights up lol the taste buds on the palat, yet smooth. Nice bite on the finish with a lasting satisfaction. A quality rum for the cabinet. Sip it only.
I went to Guatemala to try this rum and couldn't help bringing some back home :-)
I tried it straight and requested some ice to try it when it was cooled down. My partner in crime preferred it straight but I have to say the flavours really come out nicely when it is a bit cooler and it gives your tongue a better chance to distinguish the full palette.
Sweet and smooth, not super flavorful but very drinkable. A bit of papaya and stone fruit on the mid-palate but the taste is dominated by molasses. Short sweet finish. No spiciness or alcohol burn.
Super sweet so you have to like it sweet and also super smooth. Fantastic cognac aroma mixing with vanilla, nuts, cinammon. Nice dark colour.
Neat had a great nose... but not my thing... on the rocks softened the taste and made in "enjoyable"...

Smooth as silk, warming. Sweet sugar molasses aroma. Sweet but not cloying to my palate. A joy to drink if you prefer sweeter styles. If Navy rums or drier rums are your thing then this is not. I love it. Lots of character. I wouldn't hesitate to give this neat to someone wanting to step into aged rums. Some aficionados will not like the sweet aspect of this rum but it is what it is and for all of that it's simply a joy to sip. Raise one for me!
(UPDATE - my initial rating on this is from notes from a number of years ago. My palate had changed and while I still like this rum I would lower my original rating to a 7.5 or an 8. I find that these super sweet blends are becoming overbearing to my palate as I experience more and more drier and no sugar added rums. )
