Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Here is my review of this world famous rum. There are already so many of them that it is not even worth to write too much.
Colour: Quite dark, very dark amber
Smell: After pouring into a glass, a strong alcohol vapour will "exhale" on you. This is quite surprising on rum with 40%. I recommend letting it breathe for at least 15 minutes, but it still irritates the nose a bit. I smell vanilla, caramel, slightly chocolate, spices and woodiness.
Taste: For me, it's better than smell. From the beginning, you can feel the sharpness on the palate, which will soften over time. Zacapa is slightly sweet. The taste is vanilla, butter biscuits, dried fruit, oak wood and spices (cloves, nutmeg).
Aftertaste: Medium long with a sweet finish.
Overall rating: 8/10
Conclusion: For me, this is a good rum, but it is more known than that it would be so good.
Not really worth the pricetag, the only good thing is that you can find it easily everywhere
Smooth, deep sugar cane bouquet and taste. The deep amber color invites to dream. Flawless
Good flavor not overly sweet, great sipping rum without breaking the bank. Still will take the Santa Teresa 1796 but I am Venezuelan so I might be biased...
The taste is a bit sweeter than a Diplomatico, yet it's not at all distracting from the deep taste which immediately fills your mouth after just one sip. Nice dark colour looks very good in a glass, the age really makes a difference here. The bottle is actually very tall and doesn't look particularly special or nice in my opinion, however there is a straw ring near the bottom, which makes the bottle look a little more vintage, and I found the bottle itself looks great when combined with books on a shelf. Very nice rum, one of my personal favourites.
Nice dark rum ... a bit too Smokey for me but nice easy drinking rum all the same
I've purchased a few bottles of this over my time drinking rum and I have to say, when I'm not quite sure what I want to drink, this never fails to satisfy.
saying that however this is no perfect rum, it runs sweet for my taste and the finish is to be desired. I also don't quite like the fact that the bottle is a little bit deceptive
Tasted together with Diplomatico reserva exclusiva. Has a stronger finish than Diplomatico.
Not my top 10 choices but often available at bars and I’ll take it over Catain Morgan, Malibu, Myers, or Bacardi White (the typical bar rums). Just too sweet for my pallet tastes artificial like Pilar. Don’t get me wrong it’s an OK rum if that’s your thing. My pallet has just matured.
Not great for my taste but a balanced rum for us the beginners. Nice flavors not great aftertaste whatsoever.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Nice Rum at a good price, great straight, but not so pricey as to cause guilt when mixing with a splash of diet coke
