Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

One of my favorite rums so far. Well worth the price.
Rum di qualità , lo trovò davvero buono, consigliato
Perfect sipping rum - Love it in a rocks glass with a large cube. By far my favorite of all my rums
Very flat rum taste. For 23 years It is very sharp on tongue. I know that this rum is made with solera method but still much sharper than for example Presidente 21.
It is not sweet not too spiced. Just basic rum flavour. Good for mixed drinks but a bit expensive for such use. Otherwise I don't know why I should buy It.
It was my first rum ever. After some tastings, i can say it‘s a great one to begin the adventure. It‘s has a nice sweet taste, not to sweet, just right. I like a lot the little smell of alcohol and the smooth burn on the tongue!
Smooth, nose and taste of molasses.
Excellent for. Simple daiquiri. Reminds me of Dictador 25 Yr.
This is the most famous rum in the world? I like it!!.
First taste is quite sweet and then strong smokey and barrelly notes kick in. At the end the taste changes to a bit waterry and thin.
Great tasting rum! Though it is a sweet rum, it has a really good and nuanced taste in my opinion.
I had high hopes in this rum and maybe this is why I am slightly disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, it is a very good tasting rum, but I don’t think it lives up to the reputation. Rich smell, smooth taste, all there, but ... (there is always a but) ... it just did not rock my world. I usually like sweet rum, hence I don’t consider it too sweet. Would I recommend it? I think so, but within this price class I have other favorites.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Its sweet but the sweetness isn't over the top. Good combination of brown suger, vanilla, caramel, and oak. One of the most balance rums I have found. My only criticism is I consider the use of the new charred oak in the aging process a negative. You can taste the char on the finish.
