Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I would say I am a solera fan. I was expecting a lof from that rum. I fully agree with Nigel review. bit of desapointment. so nice to sip but not my favorite

I don't get all that hype around it, but its definitely worth trying. Complex and a bit sweet but alcohol taste at the end spoils all the fun.
Obviously the number 23 together with 1 liter bottle for decent price makes the trick, but overrated imho.

It was my first Rum I started with for about 6 years ago. I like it still but far down in my list of favorite rums.
Sweet, Caramel, Vanilla taste. However for a 23 years old Rum it doesn't taste that aged.

This is not a bad rum, but I never drink it. There are better rums at this price. Beautiful color!

This was the first rum i bought, and it has changed my whole idea of what good alcohol should taste like. I can only recommend!

Een rum met een interessant verhaal betreft zijn rijping in 'The House Above The Clouds' ...
Deze rum wordt vaak als goed tot zeer goed aangeprezen. Ik deel deze mening niet. De blend dmv het solera systeem maakt dat deze rum inderdaad zijn smaak, geur en looks, jaar op jaar kan doorgeven.
Ik herken hier echter maar heel weinig tot geen 'oude gerijpte' rum in. Echter 1 druppel van een 23 jarige barrel, maakt dat men er mag '23 jaar gerijpt' op drukken.
Voor mij is dit eerder een middelmatige rum, waar het alcoholgevoel het wint op het smaakgevoel. Is te prijzig voor wat je ervoor krijgt.
Desalniettemin zorgt de goede marketing en positionering voor een grote afzetmarkt. Dat deze dan ook vaak als 'eerste goede rum' bij een beginnend verzamelaar in de collectie staat is niet verwonderlijk.
