Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

This rum is a great sipping rum and enjoyed best neat. This is a cigar rum where there is little bite. This though in my tasting is one dimensional. It has one flavor going on for the most part. I will soon sample the 25 year and I hope it breaks into uni-dimensional at that point. No hang over choice high quality.

Old copper-yellow in the glass.
Powerful and very complex nose with aroma's of ripe banana, fruity, vanilla and caramel.
Velvety mouthfeeling with the same aroma's as in the nose.
Exceptional concentration, perfectly balanced and a very long finish.

This is a very complex rum that you can place amongst the very top.

Although I found this a decent rum, it has quite a strong molasses flavour and is not as smooth as I'd expected following so many rave reviews. Still nice, but priced too high in my opinion

Solid 8 to 9. I'm going with 8 because I'm hoping for even better. Smooth as glass and great flavour. This is a permanent rum in my collection.

Tastes of caramel, chocolate and oak. Isn't that sweet, though a bit dry. Very decent rum

In my opinion, very balanced in taste and aroma. Light and pleasant with the qualities of a good rum. I recommend it especially to rum beginners and those who prefer mildness precisely because of its pleasant taste and the balance between flavor and aroma. Classic. It is worth getting to know him and having in your collection.

Ein wahnsinnig überbewerteter Rum, der mit seinem zugesetzten Zucker, seiner Färbung und der missverständlichen Altersangabe ein falsches Spiel mit dem Kunden spielt.

An insanely overrated rum that plays a false game with the customer with its added sugar, coloring and misleading age statement.

I read all of the reveiws below and people trashing this. As a beer connoisseur with beers exceeding 1500/bottle, I think we have to acknowlege that not every bottle of every liquor is going to be the Shangri-La of that liquor. However, as a person that was looking for a nice sipping beverage to keep me out of my beer, I found this to be exceptional. It is super-smooth, little-to-no heat, and does have the sweetness that a bunch are griping about. We drank it side-by-side with an Appleton Estate 21 year, and the Appleton tasted like garbage. If that is what rum is supposed to be, I will stick with the Zacapa. I know I sure as hell will not drop another 100+ on a bottle I have not tried after that train wreck. .
