Bacardi 8 rum

Bacardi 8

United States | Aged | 40% ABV

Bacardi 8-Year is a blended rum, filtered using the Bacardi-pioneered charcoal filtering system and aged for eight years.

This rum was not released to the public until 1995, when the first limited edition Bacardi 8 was sold with a sherry oak finish in a Baccarat crystal decanter. Despite a price tag of $400 per bottle, the rum was hugely popular and led to the larger release of the blend without the collectors' features and price.

I am not brave enough to buy an entire bottle of the widely-hated Bacardi, even though I try to be open to rums I haven’t tried. When I noticed a sample in the store, I decided to give it a try. A 5cl bottle is always a safe option.

The color of this rum is light and golden, with low opacity.

The aroma is moderately sweet, composed of almonds, banana, coconut, nuts and nail polish remover. Spikes of ethanol appear from time to time. Long breathing makes this rum smell more vodka-like and sweet.

First sipps reveal the sweet and spicy mixture which partially covers the ethanol, present in the background. Some nutty notes can be sensed but it tastes mostly like neutral alcohol mixed with sugar syrup.

Unfortunately, my opinion about Bacardi didn't improve. This rum is a classical example of attempting to cover the neutral alcohol with sugar and spacings.
There are 14 gold medals printed on the bottle label. The manufacturer lets us know that this rum won many competitions and makes it more appealing. I examined the medals with a magnifying glass. The awards come from years 1899-1927. Apparently, this rum must have deteriorated significantly over the last 100 years.

Same level. Long time rivals. Bacardi 8 years is always more expensive than Havana Club 7 years. I believe that sum of money is for the marketing expenses.

The juice in the bottle was good for a mixed drink, but nothing special.

A little harsh, best with orange juice or some soda.

Not so smooth has a bite at the end. Color and flavor are alright.

Bacardi rums are some of my favorites. Great sipping rum, smooth, woody and smoky flavors

Poměr cena(koupeno za 550)výkon, jednoznačně spokojenost. Není nijak extra výrazný ani specifický. Vizuálně vděčný = vhodný jako dar. V chuti karamel a závěr trochu dřeva až s nádechem kouře alá whisky. Vůně ovocné tóny.

Not a bad rum, but nothing much to write home about.
