Panama | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (5+)
Only the most successful inspirations become legacies; legacies that are cherished and passed down from generation to generation. "Centuria" is our most guarded family treasure. It is the result of patience and passion for the details, embodied in our family's rum-making tradition since 1908. The taste of our legacy.

Ein super Rum, aber für mich persönlich nicht süß genug.
While this is smooth I don't feel it offers enough complexity and doesn't deliver on the sweetness that so many on here brought up. I have many sweet rums and this isn't in a Ron millonario xo or dos luxus kind of ballpark. Instead it is quite powerful and even after breathing I still found it to be overpowering. I'm going have to come back to this in the future but for now it moves to the back of the cabinet.
Elegante amberkleurige rum uit Panama. met intense tonen van toffee, geroosterde kokos, karamel, specerijen en banaan.
To judge this rum you also have to take it's price in consideration. Me for example i have tried the abuelo 1
2 years and have to say. The centuria is not that much better. Don't get me wrong, it is a great rum but so is the 12. If it was around 50 euro's it would beat the 12 but for 140 euro's i would buy 4 or five bottle's of the 12.
Chuť: Lehce kořenité (hřebíček) a mentolové, rozinky
Dozvuk: Sušené ovoce (fíky, rozinky), sladký, středně dlouhý
Sladkost: 2/3

Top Abuelo mi nepřišlo lepší než třeba 12y o Two Oaks ani nemluvě. Pohodové pití, ale lahev za tu cenu se podle mého nevyplatí.
WTH is it with the added sugars?!? Burnt at that. Exceeds even the moderately+ sweetness of the 12 year. The nose is excellent and you can literally nasal-taste the older rums in waiting...until you actually taste it. Sweet...more sweet...absolutely defiling the rum that could have been. Not until mid-finish do you get reintroduced to what this rum might have been throughout the palate; some really nice dark tea, leather, citrus & fruit intertwining with slight clove, chocolate, nuts and, and...well, after lingering for a bit, it's over. A shame; it could have been great. Very nice texture on the tongue. Almost a 7, but the burnt molasses - present but much better balanced in the Abeulo 12 - says "6".
Maybe a few months of decanting will help, but at this price should one have to? Bahhh....save money and buy a bottle of Plantation 20 XO and Mount Gay XO instead. You'll have two better distillations and won't mind telling your drinking buddies what you paid.
Was expecting more. Kind of thought I was in trouble when I opened the bottle and caught a sherry scent. I let it sit in a glass for 20 minutes hoping for the best but nope, too much of a sherry taste and burnt sugar. Too high of a price. Too sweet. Had in my wish list for a while and the anticipation of trying this rum out weighed the experience of actually trying it. I am certainly done with Abuelo as this is my second Abuelo rum and neither has been impressive.
Was expecting a lot more for $125. Sat on the shelf for for over a year waiting for that great afternoon to have it with a fine cigar. Unfortunately I was sadly disappointed due to its whisky-esque nose and profile (I do not like nor drink whiskey). What I've discovered after sampling many rums (too many according to my wife) is that I love rums that have a molasses base and relegate cane juice based rums, like Ron Abuelo, as mixers.
It's not that it is a bad rum, I just shouldn't have added it to my collection with it being a cane juice based rum. Need to start doing my research before adding expensive bottles to the collection.
I got some money to burn on a special something and I decided that between a spear gun and rum I went with Ron Abuelo... Boy do I have fantastic buyers regret. I wish I could go back and return this but we'll chalk this up to lesson learned. It's too sharp and acidic almost like the bottle was left in the sun too long or something. You do get interesting flavors that linger on the tongue, but it comes at the cost of the initial burn and sharp flavor. I'm not really sure how they sell this as a $150 bottle... it taste similar to Zafra rum ($30 bottle which is good for it's price)... I'll stick with my $45 plantation XO that's far smoother and with a much better flavor profile.
P.S. I so surprised by the rum that I thought someone had switched out the bottle at the store with a cheaper one lol, I looked up pictures on the internet just to be sure I didn't get ripped off.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I was at the rum fair in paris where I first got to taste it. It is definitely tasty and good on or off the rocks. But for that price no then you have better for less much less
