Great spice rum for mixing or sipping. This is a blend of 10YO rums that runs dark and should replace kraken black anywhere it is found. Superb rum, especially for a blend - even more so considering price point.

Oak notes with hints of clove and cinnamon. Just a tad harsh for a sipper IMO but a decent mixer and inexpensive.

Woody vanilla spice followed by mild sweetness that keeps a complex finish. Moderate ethanol heat.

You can't go wrong with this for $20 bucks. I like it better than El Dorado 12, Doorly's XO, 8 and maybe even 12. It's a nice sippable rum at a very affordable price.

Tasted October 10 2023 thanks to the Forbidden Hole collection.
Appearance: light gold
Aroma: vanilla and brown sugar and perhaps maple syrup?
Flavor: this is a solid rum. Vanilla and a bit of fire.

This is a complex profile, both sweet and nutty.

Good for the price but the plastic bottle was much better. This one felt muted

A bit sweet. Smooth but boozy mouth feel with somewhat intense throat burn. Molasses, black currant, and spice flavors followed by a dry spicy finish (some tannins present). Pretty enjoyable offering from R.L. Seale, especially at this price! Could render a 7 rating if allowed to breathe a bit.

Foursquare / R.L. Seale do make some interesting/unique rums and this is no different. Dry like most bajan rums but this has to be the most peppery rum I have tried. Very little sweetness even for a true bajan rum. There is a hint of whiskey and cocoa as well. Great price point at under $25 and really pretty unique flavor. If you are in the mood for a dry and unsweetened rum this may be for you. Not my favorite, but unique and the price is right.
Pretty good for the money and has a good blend of barrell flavour.

I love the R.L Seale line of rums, and Old Brigand is no exception. Yes it is an inexpensive rum, affording you to unfairly insinuate that this has to taste like paint thinner or should be used to remove nail polish. Neither is further from the truth as Seale, I donβt think, would do this to Rum clientele.
The smell is dominated by orange and cinnamon candies which albeit, has a pleasing smell. In the glass you get sweetness from the cinnamon and orange but also the heat provided by the said cinnamon, pepper and other warm spices, oak as well as the proverbial alcohol heat/ astringent at the back end This is in a good way however, as I donβt want you to feel like you are sucking on a Carolina Ghost pepper kind of extreme heat. It counterbalances the sweet and heat rather nicely.
This rum is the most popular rum in Barbados, not because of complexity or age statement but because it is only $15-$20 a bottle. Donβt let the small price tag fool you, this is an enjoyable rum to mix or even to enjoy neat.
Nothing fancy regarding the bottle design or label housing the dark amber rum inside however, sometimes you get lucky and find a genie in the bottle! This is one of those times, for me atleast...letβs Parlay...
