Myers's Original Dark rum

Myers's Original Dark

Jara avatar image had this rum recently

Jamaica | Dark | 40% ABV

Myer’s Original Dark Rum is a blend of up to nine different rums of various ages, all of which are distilled using Jamaica's typical production method: pot-stills. The Original Dark Rum is slightly unique in Jamaica however, because some of the molasses used earlier in the process is added back in after distillation.

Myers rum has been produced since 1879 and named after its founder, Fred Myers.

Seriously, I thought, years ago, that this reminded me of a black, coal tar based cough medicine called Rem. It's that bad. I just wonder why I ever bought a second bottle.

I've heard good things about Myers's, and how it's a classic, but I didn't feel the magic. There was an intense plastic taste, though it came in a glass bottle. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I'm rating this a 3 since it may have just been a bad batch, but I'm disinclined to try Myers's Original Dark again.

Like others have said, not the best but a step up from sailor jerry and bacardi for mass party consumption

Bought in San Fransisco for something different. Nothing special but more than drinkable.

We bought this one on holiday as we did forget to bring some good rum with us and this was the best looking and most expensive rum we did get there.

As we sipped that one we looked at each other and almost spit it out. We also tried mixing it, but that is no pleasure... I prefer to drink rum straight up, but also mixed we couldn't & wouldn't use this bottle and emptied it to the sink...

Myers's rum is one to mix with ginger beer or a cocktail. But if you're a little heavy handed on the servings, its all you'll taste its extremely dark and pleasant if served correctly. But if you're not a dark rum fan then I wouldn't recommend this one to ya.

Relatively cheap, great for mixing. Current favourite Mai Tai rum for me.
