Jamaica | Dark | 40% ABV

Myer’s Original Dark Rum is a blend of up to nine different rums of various ages, all of which are distilled using Jamaica's typical production method: pot-stills. The Original Dark Rum is slightly unique in Jamaica however, because some of the molasses used earlier in the process is added back in after distillation.

Myers rum has been produced since 1879 and named after its founder, Fred Myers.

I cant say I liked anything about this rum, but I also cant say anything bad about it either. Not my first choice but a decent all around rum. I drank this on ice and it went down like water.

Great for mixing: nice flavor, some funk, not too sweet. Works great in a Trader Vic's planter's punch: a good amount of flavor, but doesn't overpower the drink. The one annoying thing is that recently, most stores that carry it seem to only have it in plastic bottles

Good for mixing. Although there are better ones, depending on your taste. I like the taste of raisens or marzipan in a mixer rum. Like El Dorado Dark or Inner Circle Red. This one clearly doesn't have that.

I detect molasses and oak right away on the nose, suggesting some older rum has been blended. The texture is quite creamy, and moderately thick (you can watch it try to stick to the glass in the right light). The flavor is VERY mild, with subtle flavors of caramel and molasses/caramelized sugar. This is a rum made for the masses, for all the people that need something easy and affordable for a mixer, or something that goes down super easy on the rocks.

This is the rum that started my exploration of rums beyond your typical Captain's and Coke.

As a newbie, I won't try to describe the flavors this imparts as I've never tried sipping it, preferring it as a mixer with ginger ale (as opposed to Coke like many other reviewers) when I'm out at the bars. I will, however, tell you that this spirit has been responsible for many enjoyable nights spent with friends that are pleasantly, if somewhat hazily, recalled...

It's rich and almost earthy, with sweet and peppery spices. Vanilla, brown sugar and coffee add sweetness and complexity. Finishes a bit hot to be a pure sipping rum, but there's a good reason bartenders the world over reach for it to make a variety of cocktails. Not worth the price and smells bad.

I have been buying this rum for 10 years now and it has never disappointed me so far.
More specifically, I use it all the time for tiki cocktails and its the best one I have tried yet.
Dark and rich it suits almost every cocktail/longdrink that calls for dark rums.

However I wouldn't suggest sipping on it, cause its quite heavy

Regarding price I buy it at a price of 20€

Myers Dark is just an okay rum for me I use it more for cooking than drinking because it’s bark is as worse as it’s bite. In a pinch I would drink this over substandard Rums as Bacardi but other than that it is just a passable rum for me

I've been using this for years in Mai Tai's and Rum Runners, but just tasted it neat for the first time. Very bitter and harsh, but I don't think it's made for sipping. Always have a bottle on hand, but won't be tasting straight again.

I have been drinking this old standby mixer for 30 years. Whenever I want a very rich and dark molasses flavor that seldom offends, this one can be counted upon. Any time I don't want to figure out what to order at a bar, I just ask for Myers and Coke. If the bartender offers Pepsi instead, I gladly accept the upgrade. I never sip this one neat or on the rocks. It is also fairly cheap and very readily available anywhere. However, as for keeping this one in your cabinet, you would be better off using Pusser's 84 proof.
