Plantation Overproof O.F.T.D.

Taste of Plantation Original, but with fire in your mouth in the end. I like this combination

Must have and widely available cocktail rum - rich, hogo and spice. Must have for tiki and tropical cocktails. In a handy 1L bottle.

The flavors are surprisingly deep and rich, it is an enjoyable experience even to drink it neat. Overall a well balanced blend.

On the nose tobacco, oak and brown sugar. In the mouth its heavy banana, almost chilli. Floods your mouth. Can see why its so highly rated. For me its a solid basis for overproof demerara cocktails.

One of my favourite rums for sure. Dangerous if drank neat but a dash of water helps a lot and makes this gem a fabulous sipper. I liked mixing it with The 3 star and some ginger beer on ice and lime but for the price and quality I won’t mix it again.

romul asta trebuie combinat clar, cel mai bine mi a iesit cu bere de ghimbir , lime si menta , superb )

e o surpriza incredibila acest rom, se simte aroma chiar daca pui doar putin intr un cocktail , e peste varianta original dark dar nu e recomandat sa iei mai mult de 2 guri sec. in plus nu e un rom scump, o super investitie .

One of my new favorites. It’s perfect in tiki drinks.

I was always a spiced rum & Diet Coke guy...graduated to tiki drinks and the past few years been getting into sipping rums. This is THE one for me! Strong, so I still cut it with an ice cube and a little lime juice but I have already moved to my 2nd bottle. Packs a wallop but that smell and taste is all the best I’ve enjoyed of others runs combined into one. Just enough fruit bouquet and molasses taste I look for.

Here we go again. Not only is this rum great tasting, it is rich, ornery, and bold. As a master crafted, affordable overproof it is an indispensable steroid for your home bar and an essential for your local cocktail hang out. Basically with this and a handful of other plantation greats you truly don’t need to go outside the brand to have a vast gambit of tastes from the rum world that potentially can re-define the taste of even your most familiar cocktails. Great buy, great rum.

The nose is quite pleasant, not hot like one would expect. Caramel and molasses with warming alcohol. Fruity. The sweet aromas are subdued.
The flavor is a different ballgame! Very warming boarding on hot but low and behold a lot of flavor as well. Sweet molasses, hints of vanilla and oak. Not what I would call a sipper by any means but cut with water or on the rocks it may be considered by some. Not for the faint of heart in this context. Long softly bitter aftertaste that is quite enjoyable.
An excellent mixer when used in cocktails requiring an over proof rum. Plenty of pure rum character but not as hot or lacking in character as other readily available 'big name' over proof or '151' rums. I have yet to experience Hamilton 151 or Lemon Hart but these seem to be the only other over proofs that compare based on reviews.
If you're looking for a great over proof to use in 'tiki' drinks or other rum cocktails this is a great choice as it has great rum flavor and wonderful aromatics. For the price ($27 for a liter in Ohio-2019) it's hard to argue the value. A wholehearted thumbs up!
As an addendum the Plantation website stipulates 16 g/L dosage so it definitely has some sugar added. Not a sugar bomb by any means but I think it actually helps bring out the cursory aromatics that may be lost in the alcohol otherwise. I like the fact that Plantation is transparent in their dosage. It's not deceptive as in the case with other distiller/bottlers.
9/19- I find that like this on it's own more and more. A cube of ice is all it needs if you're looking for something big, bold and full of flavor give this a shot. Still, not for the faint of heart!
