Much better than aldi Old Hopking. Reasonable to drink neat. Very good with a mixer. Excellent quality for the price. Smokey and smooth taste. Would definitely buy again.

After trying the FdC-7 I gave the FdC-12 a go and concluded that I would rather check out the FdC-5 than the 18 so her I am.

On the nose it is very easy to recognize the typical FdC-aroma; at first a bit high on alcohol followed by a variety of spices, fudge, orange peel, vanilla, burnt sugar. It is a tad lighter than the 7 and 12 expressions but clearly related. Apart from the, at first, strong alcohol smell the scents are more friendly than with the 7 and very much more sparkling than with the 12.

On the palate the whole rum is lighter and more vivid than the 7; less mature but in better balance and an easy and entertaining sipper yet a little less complex. The 12 has more flavours and depth, sure, but drinks like a dead product if you get that; it is very boring after a few sips. The 5 certainly is not. The 5 is an easy drink and a rum that I would pick just because of its youth and I like it more than the 7 and a lot more than the 12. It doesn't happen often that I prefer the younger bottlings more but with FdC I apparantly do.

Because of this rum I feel obliged to take the rating of the FdC-7 down by one mark and frankly the FdC-5 is the only FdC that I might buy again. At its pricepoint one of the nicer ones I tasted.

I didn't have great expectations, not a Flor De Cana fan, and this is what should be expected for any rum aged 3-5 year's.a 3-5 rating. Mixing rum only nothing redeeming on the palette from sipping.

With some ice, not too bad as a sipper but not great.

My first ever FcD was 12yo, the number 12 of all sorts of the rum I've tasted. Then there were 18yo (not impressed that much) and 7yo (fiasco).

Now Im drinking 5yo and I enjoy it. Feels like complex enough and tasty.

Have to rediscover Flor de Caña.

I was surprised that this one can be drunk with just an icecube. Its great to mix with but can be drunk with just ice aswell. A must have if your friends want to mix a rum and you want to have it pure.

This can only be enjoyed as a mixer in my opinion.
Like basic Bacardi Etc

The rum is strong and quite spiced. The aftertaste is prolonged. However there is nothing special about it.

Rough. It says bourbon barrel aged on my bottle, which is very believable cos this tastes more like bourbon than rum.

There's really not much else to say that's positive. I suppose it's cheap.

Smells clinical. Tastes fairly rotten straight. Not fantastic with a mixer.
