This is not for every rum drinker! I can't find a similar taste to compare to, not sure what it is but I definitely liked it. For me it seemed even more enjoyable with a small drop of ice in it. Great one, Angostura!
Just as many higher tier rums it was sipped even better when near to the bottom of the bottle, awesome brand + overall design. As an owner of beautiful wooden shelves I just as appreciate intelligent bottle neck hard to spill
Bitter sweet rum from trinidad. Dark in colour, and with good after taste 😁
It’s a unique sip with tones of molasses and caramel. Smooth on the attack, a slight tingle as it lingers and a very pleasant burn on the aftertaste.
I’m not a big fan of drinking rum straight or just on ice but this one that I enjoy in its own.
before that, I tried 1824 and was so impressed by the depth of aroma and taste. But when I tried 1787, it turned out that it was even tastier! But since everything has a price, the price of 1787 was in my opinion higher than taste ((
Compared to the 1824 12yo this one is smoother and has more depth. There’s distinguishable oak on the nose, maybe a little smoke too with caramel. The taste is smooth as it’s slight sweetness lingers.
The Angostura 1787 is a molasses blend which is stored in oak barrels for at least 15 years. It should consist of pure premium vintages. The rum has 40% alcohol and it is probably also sugar attached. The mahogany-coloured rum comes in a chic bottle and packaging, however, has an atypical screw cap.
In the glass, the rum quickly releases intense barrel notes, which are easily and clearly perceptible even without holding the nose directly into the glass. It is clear that it is not a rum that hides. There are also sweet caramel and vanilla notes perceptible. While drinking first the vanilla becomes clear. With a good portion of sweetness. A fruity note follows. Canwed apples. Wood notes accompany the compositions. In the finish remains the fruity note with caramelized portion, which is captured by oak notes. The wood note remains quite present. The rum is quite complex, but almost overloaded with mamy notes that threaten to crush each other. A tightrope act for the rum and the connoisseur.
For approx. 65Euro it gives a complex process of aromas that harmonize well. He has a good body for 40%. I think it has succeeded but 3-5% more Alcohol would make it even greater. The 1787 is not for everyone but the logical evolution of the 1824. The Kill Devil Trinidad 10years shows that more abv and less sugar would help.

My first reaction to this rum was that it had so much tropical fruit flavor that it's practically its own cocktail. Not too sweet, not too much oak. A lovely new offering from the House of Angostura, of which I am an ardent fan. The best of their regular line, in my opinion, though I still am fond of other smaller-edition independent bottlings. The flavor here is very compelling, and worth the effort of obtaining a bottle.
