As a way to be able to enjoy some aged Foursquare for well under $100(around $20 to be exact) it’s not too bad. The finish falls a little flat and boring, but just don’t sit for long before taking another sip. It’s usually the best way to enjoy rum anyways.
My first rum from fousquare distillery. I am surprised how it differs in taste from all the other rums I tried. Now I understand what you are talking about. Interesting and light taste, not too woody and leathery. Naturally sweet with floral and fruity notes. Would be excellent with a longer finish. A quality rum.
Very good sipper. Not as sweet as the XO. Which I really like. This 8 year is very tasty. Definitely a great addition to the collection.
Great rum for a great price. Foursquare does never disapoint
Took some getting used to after coming from the Foursquares and the Doorlys 14, looking for a more budget friendly option. A bit dryer and flatter than the aforementioned, but its still quality, especially when you judge it at its price point. I’m keeping my shelf stacked with this and a Mount Gay XO from now on.
Foursquare is incapable of making a bad rum. I like this every bit as much if not more than many pricier rums. Think I like it better than the 12 year old. There simply is not a $20 rum that comes close. Using this as a mixer is a waste of excellent rum IMHO.
My usual daily go-to is Doorly's XO...I tried this on a whim and at $23 it was three bucks cheaper at Total Wine than the XO. The difference between the two is mostly nuance, I'm not sure I could tell the difference blindfolded. Both are good buys and don't disappoint. I've yet to go wrong with any product from Foursquare, even the absurdly inexpensive Doorly's 5YO ($31.99 for 1.75L) seems head and shoulders above any similarly-priced competition...the rums I've mentioned are inexpensive and not "sophisticated" maybe, but they don't taste cheap at all. If you want a more upscale sipping rum, Foursquare produces a number of those as well.
Doorly rums are great and the 8yr. is no exception. It ends up right where it's meant to be, slightly better than the XO, and not as good as the 12yr.
Very smooth mouth and throat feel with slowly growing intensity at the end. Honey, banana, dry carmel, with slight oak and vanilla on the finish. A lot smoother than the XO, but doesn't seem to have as powerful of flavors as a whole.
Overall, I think it stands on it's own legs between the XO and 12yr. as yet another good offering from a great company.
Nice oak notes and spicy sweet/sour bourbon mash. You also get sweet fruity notes.
"A little grape and some coconut. A slight caramel sweetness as well, a just a touch of toffee."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Not bad, especially for the price, though I actually prefer Doorly's XO over this one. The flavor is drier than the XO and, actually, a little less robust. They are very similar so get whatever's cheapest.
Very strong butterscotch and "rum" flavor. Rather oaky and dry. A tad bitter.
