At first, I was rather dissapointed by the bottle, but after having a few sips, I was intrigued enough to empty the bottle with several friends over night. Honestly, the taste is quite smooth but not sweet as is the case with many rums, but still delivers a very distinct rum flavour, with vanilla oak and maybe hints of tobacco hitting my palate. It lacks greater some depth, but as it is, this 8-year rum doesn't really need it and given the age and the price, to me this is as good as it gets. Really very close to perfect in the category, as it is a quality sipping experience and tastes great in cocktails (Tried a few basic ones, including Daiquiri, A rum old fashioned, Mojito and Mary Pickford, although they all call for a white rum)

Surprised, like this better than the 12. Not the best nose but could pass as a shot, not quite a sipper as it is a little tough on the back of the tongue. As a mixer this was a nice find with a full body, not too sweet but not real dry. Think this was a very nice blending rum too, I look forward to trying it as this becomes a stocking rum for me.

Have to use it for drinks. Try to drink it bare one time and what was no pleasure

This is a great starter rum if you're exploring aged rums for the first time, like me. It's not super expensive and provides a great, aged flavor. As always, I prefer my rum over ice with a healthy splash of Coke.

At the price point, it is very hard to justify another even at $10 or 15 more. Smooth vanilla, toffee, and caramel notes. Great ED after work sipper. Makes a mean top shelf daquari too.

Huge fan of El Dorado, the 12 year being my go-to sipper. Just tried the 8 and it's also excellent. Not quite as sweet as the 12, and a little more burn, but for the price it's a steal and I will be buying this one again. A great rum to keep on hand!
Edit: I'm on my second bottle now, it's really growing on me. Fantastic value, ($4 more than bargain barrel bottles), I think this will be my new go to over ED12. Highly recommended, I drink neat and it's awesome. Huge fan of El Dorado.

Nose: traditional el dorado, chocolate, dark sweet molasses, toffee
Taste: chocolate, toffee, hint of smoke, vanilla and baking spice, not as sweet as the 12 yo
Finish: semi sweet sugary smoothiness with nice oakiness, ends with dark chocolate. Not as smooth as the 12 yo but that is a good thing since the 12 yo is syrupy smooth because the added boatload of sugar.
Overall: good mixing rum, bit bland on it's own

Again this is one of the rums I didn't mark as the first entry in my 2nd passport. that is on of the issues with tasting rums in one of the best rum clubs is sometimes you don't remember to do things. i will have to go back and rate it again.

Same at the 5 years. A little sweeter. The molasses flavor starts to come through. Still the alcool burn. Go for the 12 or 15 if you wanna sip it. Better yet. Kirk and sweeney !

Not a bad rum in itself at all but overshadowed by the 12/15/21.
