Brugal 1888 is one of my favorite rums. So after seeing Leyenda scores a whole point above it, I was really excited to try it. Not as easy to find, but eventually I got my hands on a bottle. Poured a glass of 1888 next to it, to compare it side by side…. and was disappointed. Leyenda seems very watery and overly sweet. Can not compare at all to 1888, which is much drier, and has completely different personality.
I do think Leyenda is heavily dosed. People who prefer rums on the sweeter side will love it. On the nose, clear notes of caramel, coffee and raisins. Not a bad smell, but also very sweet.
I’ll take 1888 over Leyenda every single time. Would be very interested in trying Leyenda with 0-5 g/L of sugar and at higher ABV.
It was my first better rum.
I was on holiday in Dominican Republic and I think I drunk it for 2 weeks:))
Bit of alcoholic taste but in balance with the tastes.
For me a deep rum and always remember to my Dominican vacation.
Delicious sipping rum. Sweet and fruity. Tasted like a fine rum mixed with a high end spanish red vermouth. Then I read the label in the back of the bottle: mixture of 80% aged rums and 20% spanish wines. Nevertheless, an excellent result.
Got this from a friend who was visiting family in the Dominican. He mentioned this was his personal favorite rum. I was not sure what to expect as I had not had Dominican rum before. However, I was absolutely blown away by this rum. It is one of the smoothest rums I have ever had and was full of flavor. It is quite sweet but not molasses tasting like diplomatico. Overall highly recommend anyone pick this bottle up if you can.
That one is the best of Brugal and for the price it's a huge favorite.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I probably didn't drink enough of this to give it a proper review. I was at a cigar bar in Punta Cana when a stranger who splurged on a bottle poured me a drink. It was some of the best tasting rum I've ever had. I've tried 100 different rums in my day but the Legend is now the unicorn that I cannot get stateside.
