Diplomatico Ambassador Selection rum

Diplomatico Ambassador Selection

Venezuela | Aged

Diplomatico Ambassador Selection is a limited edition rum crafted from 100% still pot rums and aged for a minimum of 12 years. Like its counterparts, the rum originates from Venezuela and is aged in ex-bourbon casks. The rum has a high strength and does not contain any sweeteners, caramel or other additives which means it does not require chill filtration.

A rum collection isn't complete without the Ambassador! Hence I bought a bottle while on Special. Top presentation with heavy metal cork stopper. So smooth, very Sweet. If you like Sweet rums this is for you! I think its aged for 12 years in ex Bourbon barrels, then blended and aged for a further 2 years in x-Pedro Ximenez (sweet Sherry) casks

Too expensive to buy (really any rum at this price is overpriced) but lovely to be gifted. Very swanky packaging, faux leather box, heavy metal cork and all that. The contents are very good too. Sugar added? Yes, most likely. There is a hint a of SLS (sticky lip syndrome) which is a shame. It's not a sweet as the Reserva Exclusiva though and not as cloying. Ripe fruit aroma, plums and figs, and a pleasant smokiness. Unfortunately a hint of 'sweet shop' too. Very smooth to drink at 47%. The rum truly shines in it's heavy oaky finish. Great use of those Pedro Ximenez casks. Oak can easily be too bitter, this has a powerful but pleasant presence.

A steep price will put off many, and I only tried a small sample bottle which was still expensive enough. It's damn good for sure. If you can afford it, it's certainly a beautiful drink. But it's not something I could feel good about paying for to drink regularly!

This one is very presentable. The taste is a bit fermented, "fruity" is not far fetched. The rum alone is not worth the 200, but combined with the present-ability of the bottle and the velvet lined box it comes in, I think it is. Definitely top shelf, definitely placed in front of almost any other product on that shelf.

Genial!!
