OK, good, but a bit on the 'average' side. It tries to cover all the bases yet ends up with no distinctive notes. A great sipping rum which won't upset many palates.
Like fine scotch, every fine rum going into my mouth does so without hindrance from mixes, water or ice. Neat cant be beat.
This rum should be best enjoyed neat or with a small ice.
Complex, with the right balance between dry and sweet.
Bought this rum on a trip to punta cana to celebrate our anniversary. We visited the factory and left with this one.its nice not too sweet. And has a lovely golden colour Can be drunk straight or with coke. heavy glass bottle looks great in my home bar.
This is a nice after dinner rum straight out of the bottle. Really really smooth, a bit dry, but the sweetieness is balancing out fine the dryness.
I very much enjoyed this rum. Notes of banana, coconut, and vanilla are primary while a hint of glue comes through (may sound weird but it is good). A very sweet and fruity rum, well balanced and smooth. Mixing would be a shame!
It is the champ right now in my collection. But I am always looking for a new contender. Smooth caramel with a great finish
This is a big favorite of mine to sip. You can taste the extra aging in the sherry casks. We love it and it is easily available on the east coast.
This bottle has a lovely presentation. And it's not a bad rum, but it just didn't have enough flavor to match many other rums at this price point. It's really a 6.5, just missing out on a 7.
Brugal 1888 has a strong taste, it has a semi-explosion in your mouth when you take a sip and has bit of a burn when going down. Has a strong character and it stands out among the collection. However I can understand if the taste is overwhelming since not everyone likes it.
If you want something unique to drink you cannot go wrong with this one though.
8,5:On the nose, the influence of American oak predominates. It does so beautifully, with soft wood, vanilla, blond tobacco, toasted coconut and a certain sweetness that enriches these aromas.
Aeration gives the rum a slightly more conquering side, which then brings out the pepper and smoke. The tobacco is a little browner, and the cane molasses brandy shows a fine concentration, even if the roundness is still palpable.
9:On the palate, the rum is terribly tasty. Once again, it's the American oak that does most of the work, and we've really made the most of its qualities. With a light smoky attack, the aromas of vanilla, red fruits, coconut, oily wood and tobacco are truly thick and delicious.
8,7:The finish maintains this greediness with a certain sweet roundness.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Interesting nose with a slight burn. The sip is not diverse and the burn continues beyond the initial taste yet I will stock it, not as a sipper but as a mixer. Coke, ginger ale, citrus all created a wonderful flavor well beyond the normal mixer.
