This is totally the most flavorless spiced rum I ever spent money on, my chances of PowerBall would have more pleasant. This nothing but ethyl alcohol and no more then 100/32 of spice makes this totally worthless rum, nothing more then a total shit.
Spice Rum should have flavor, the aroma of cloves, floral or even Birchwood something this alleged rum totally lacks its like saying turpentine is the same thing as 151. I'd never think I would ever say that Captain Morgan tastes better which isn't saying a whole lot!
I usually buy Admiral Nelson. Our local store was out so I bought Calypso Spiced. I was pleasantly surprised. It's little week in the flavor category, but overall pretty decent.
Bought a 1.75 liter plastic bottle for $12 + tax last weekend as read some reviews on internet about great value spiced rums. I was not impressed but not too disappointed. In most instances you get what you pay for. This is one of those times. It really is not bad but don't expect to have found some hidden gem as far as sliced rums go. Not overly sweet which I like but also no real character or natural flavor or essence to it. Okay as a mixer. But not much more.
Not the worst but definitely not a good, spiced rum. Might be ok mixed with some sprite or ginger ale. I tried it straight like I do all just to get the taste. I don't think I will buy it again.
Back when I submitted three reviews for "trash" rums just to get my next badge, this was also one of those bought for this purpose, but it was never opened and reviewed. Well I opened it yesterday and to my surprise, it was not trash and sold for only $7 US per bottle. This is a pleasant tasting mildly spiced rum at only 70 proof from Louisville Kentucky that was probably imported from the U.S. Virgin Islands or Barbados. Out of all of the spiced rums that I have tried, this one ranks slightly above average. It is certainly better than Kraken, Sailor Jerry, or many other popular brands.
This one hits with a lot of vanilla. Have used it mainly for mixing, not something I would normally drink straight. But considering I can get it for six dollars a liter, I’m not expecting a sipper. It does well in mixed drinks/rum and Coke’s. For mixing, at this low of a price, I feel it is perfectly acceptable and a good value.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Tasted at the Forbidden Hole on Small Business Saturday, November 25 2023
Appearance: light gold
Aroma: butterscotch
Flavor: butterscotch, grain alcohol, despair.
My lips are on fire, so I need to end this review to go rinse out my mouth. This is not a good rum. This is bad. And it might not be a rum.
Yuck.
