Barbancourt 5 Star Reserve Especiale 8-Year Rum is agricultural, meaning it's produced from fermented sugar cane juice rather than the more typical molasses. The sugar cane juice is double distilled and aged for eight years in Limousin oak barrels.
Dupré Barbancourt created the Barbancourt rum recipe in 1862 in Haiti, where the rum is still produced today. A French national, Barbancourt incorporated traditional French methods including double-distillation in the process.

It had lots of flavour and has a real strong kick to it.
A little "rough" maybe but excellent with a bit of ice.
A surprising rum from Haiti. Quality taste and extremely smooth.
I could see his becoming my daily sipper. Different then other rums I tried. It was nicely balanced. Very fruity and just dry enough to cut through the sweetness with a smooth finish.
Far better that the 3 star, good rhum to drink with soda. Worthy of the Barbancourt name.
A bit too harsh on the aftertaste ..... Nice to sip but wouldn't purchase if I had the choice ... It's like a mix between spiced and aged that doesn't quite work
je m`attendais a plus d`un 5 étoiles mais bon..... il fait des drinks hors de la moyenne...
Don't be fooled by bad reviews, this r(h)um has it all - a bit of smoke, charred oak, honey, cinnamon, toffee, very little burn on the finish. There's also a plasticky, medicinal element to this that's not unpleasant. The flavors dance on the palate. Mouthfeel is nice and thick. I also get hints of honeyed raisins. A lover of bourbon and scotch will enjoy this fine offering.
Excellent rhum provenant d'Haïti, arrivé hier au Québec. De la top qualité!
This one is $22 where I live and worth every penny :)
"palate is powerful, smooth, and well-balanced'"

Nose is surprisingly “molasses” like.
"Nice citrus notes, a little lime, a hint of lemon moving onto a more fruity green grapes."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

An 8 year old Rhum Agricole that has more in common with molasses based Rum than the Martinque style Rhum produced from fermented sugar cane juice.
Appearance is light golden. Honey like sweetness aromas & vanilla. Overall a more molasses based notes on the taste with some vegetable/grassy (agricole like) notes nearer the end. An oaky peppery finish.
This is a great entry for those that want to move into agricole style rhums. Amazing value for money. I like this a lot and it makes a great Haitian (Barbacourt) Sazerac.
