Been waiting for this moment for some time. I am a fan of sweet rums, and Venezuela has a few of the best. I have the reserva and some of the single v
First sipped it in a cigar lounge from a huge crystal brandy snifter. And, at 72 years of age, I fell in love once more. Have been walking around with
2002 Single Vintage
They did it again!
Very similar to the 2000, and very nearly as good. My kind of rum, nice and fruity, delicate, with no burn at all. Excellent as can be expected of Dip
2000 Single Vintage
Perfection! Fruity, great nose, beatiful color, buttery on the tongue with no burn at all and a heavenly aftertaste. To say nothing of the very distin
2001 Single Vintage
Really delicious! Extremely good rum, not as good as the 2000, but hard to distinguish. You'd be hard put to find a better sipping rum!
Recommended for its versatility
Dry without a burn, and still quite tasty, gives the impression of being stronger than it is, Straight up, on the rocks, or... my favorite, with soda.
Sweet and smooth
I have been a rum drinker my whole adult life, and now that I have past the 70 mark I seem to have mellowed. This may not be the best I have ever tast
OK. I like sweet rums. I like dry ones too, but that is a different story. This rum has it all. Sweet, but not too sweet, and oh so many different tas
Reserve du Domaine 15-Year
Is it a rum, or a cognac?
I used to love it many years ago, and not being able to find it for many years, had forgotten the taste. I was just now able to get a bottle. My taste
Rhum Orange Liqueur
Apart from the elegant bottle, this is also an elegant drink, although one might wonder if it is a rum or a liqueur. Being from Curaçao, where the onl
The kind of rum I like. Sweet, but not as nice as the Zacapa 23. Kind of expensive, though, for the quality.
Estate Reserve 15-Year
This one and the Reserve du Domaine both have the typically French taste. Dry, not very sweet, warm in the chest. Makes one think of Cognacs and Armag
Cacique's best. Not Venezuela's
The type of rum I like. Sweet and fruity without exageration. Smooth on the tongue. Great rum, though Venezuela has better to offer, like the best fro

Pour and wait!
Do not taste right away. Way too strong in alcohol fumes. But after having passed a while of patient expectation and careful swirling in the glass, sm
Liqueur de Rhum
Rum, or liqueur?
Not really a rum, more of a rum liqueur. And that said, a great liqueur at that! Sweet and strong, as a good liqueur should be, with the beautiful col
I like the sweeter rums, and this one is sweet, but not overly so, and still quite dry. Very nice nose when you open the bottle and very gentle on the
Selección de Maestros
I liked it, but not right away. Comes on too strong, hits you with the alcohol. And then, after a while, the real taste comes through. Even being part
Ron Viejo de Caldas
Likeable, but a bit too woody for me.
Great rum if you are partial to cognacs. Nice sweet taste that gets hidden behind the wood. But, like every good rum, the taste has its moments.
Does not belong here!
Botucal is not a Puerto Rican Bacardi rum, but a Venezuelan Liqueur de Rhum by Diplomático. Botucal is the name it is marketed with in Europe. Nice s
One smooth rum!
I am partial to sweet rums, and even if this is not a very sweet rum, is has a smoothness that makes it an easy sipper. Particularly when one lets it
Gran Reserva 12-Year
Excellent for the price!
Compared price-wise this would be the best rum to buy. But quality-wise it also stands out. Smooth and warm feeling in the mouth, not too strong aroma
Gran Reserva Linaje
Like it a lot!
Bought a bottle cheap from a traveler from Venezuela who was hawking them on the street. Had not seen it before (The representative here has all Santa
Very good for the price.
Though I am not fond of the Bermudez rums, I find this one quite sippable. Sweet with some spice, as I like them. I even risk saying it is too good fo
Obviously a very good rum. Just not my taste. Too pronounced, strong on the palate and overpowering. Would love it if it were less sharp and a bit swe
Good, but not really my thing
Being one who favors the sweeter rums, this one is not really one of my favorites. A very good rum indeed, but too typically a rum from the British co
A reluctant 7
For a Bacardi, not bad at all. Even if I do not usually like their rums, I have to admit that this one is quite drinkable, even as a sipper. Smooth an
Good, but not for that price.
If a Bacardi can be called good, than this one is. I suppose that when it was still made in Cuba, this would have been their median standard. Not real
A liqueur, more than a rum.
In the great tradition, this very nice Hacienda Saruro is nearly as excellent as their other Diplomatico Licor de Ron. Sweet and complex taste, not to
500 Gran Reserva
Good, but not that good
Surprised me at the first sip. Gives the impression of being much stronger than it is. The first impression is quite raw, but mellows afterwards. Nice
12 Anos Gran Reserva
Good, but not the best
Being partial to sweet rums, I could not but like it. Bit too sharp alcohol nose when poured, much better when aired. More like sherry based Spanish b
Had expected more
Had seen the bottle and wondered about the name and the medal, and the evening before I was going to buy ione I got it as a gift. Disappointed at firs
5 Star Reserve Especiale 8-Year
Not bad at all
Far better that the 3 star, good rhum to drink with soda. Worthy of the Barbancourt name.
Extra Viejo Reserva
Good, not spectacular
Nice bottle of rum to have for when you just want to sip a rum and soda on the veranda. Sweet and smooth, but not something to enjoy straight from a s
Nice for mixing
Not being a white rum drinker, I was surprised at the richness of taste, approaching ambassador's better dark rums. Not for sipping, but quite nice in
Reserva exclusiva on a bad day
A scaled down version of the reserva exclusiva, pleasing, but again not that pleasing. Nice and sweet, but by far not in the category that Diplomático
I let the label and the name convince me that I was having a bargain. Hey, I thought. A 15 year old rum for that price? The screw-top should have been
I'll buy it again
Definitely not a sipper. A bit hash for that, but still nice and sweet, good for mixing or on ice. And for that price certainly a good buy.
3 Star 4-Year
Quite OK for the price.
Rougher than the 5 star, but still drinkable, if mixed. Great budget rum.
Only as mixer
Don't take it seriously. If it is the only rum you have, pour a lot of cola to dampen the taste. That will be drinkable.
Only for mixing... maybe. Sweet, but quite harsh. And even when mixing, not at par with the Gran Añejo and definitely not with the Imperial.
Nice smell, disappointing taste
I had a Brugal extra viejo with soda, and after that I tried this one in the same combination. While the Brugal is not outstanding, though quite nice
Somebody once said: Rum doesn't have to be good, it just has to be plentiful. I suppose he meant this one.
I like dark, sweet rums, but too much of a good thing is a bad thing. If I would desperately need a Cuba libre and there was no other rum available th
Are you serious?
The one mitigating factor is its price. Dirt cheap. And if you have a lot of sticker glue to remove, this serves the purpose well.
No, thank you!
I do not like white rum, and never put citrus in my rum. I tasted this just to be sure I don't want it, And I was right.
What a pity!
Around here, this is what you get when you order rum in a bar. I always have to specify: "Not Bacardi, and not white!". OK, It's cheaper than most ot
Buy rum. Not this.
Don't bother. If the label did not say rum, you would mistake it for rubbing alcohol.
